August 9, 2001 HEREIN EA RR a Book signing set at Mauney Library Mauney Memorial Library will host a book signing and re- ception for Jack Mauney Sunday, August 12 from 2-5 p.m. Mauney and his wife, Betty Talleson Mauney, will come from their home in Arizona to Kings Mountain to sign his book, “Paul and Lillian: Real People.” The book is a story of Mauney’s parents, lifelong Kings Mountain residents Paul and Lillian Mauney. Mauney grew up on a farm just outside Kings Mountain and survived the trenches of World War I to return home and marry his childhood friend, Lillian Ramsaur. Copies of the book will be available at the reception. Persons who have already pur- chased the book may bring it to the library to have it signed. The publicisiinvited. Entrance to the meeting room is on the side of the building next to the Harris Funeral Home parking lot. Parking is available at the side and-back of the li- brary. KM’s Abigail Lynch NC Pre-Teen finalist Abigail Lynch, daughter of Jason and Michelle Lynch of - Kings Mountain, has been se- lected as a fi nalist in the Pre-Teen: North Carolina Dhalavehip + and Rerogtition. ) program to LYNCH be held August 17-19 at the Sheraton Imperial in Raleigh. Pre-Teen North Carolina is a ladies 7-12 years of age, based on their academic records, awards and honors won, and participation in outside activi- ties. ; State finalists are evaluated on academic achievement, vol- unteer service to church and community, school honors and activities, development of per- sonal skills and abilities, com- municative ability, and on-stage acknowledgenent of accom- plishments. Pre-Teen North Carolina will award over $5,000 in education- al bonds, prizes and awards. Drop Dead slated at KM Little Theatre Kings Mountain Little Theatre will present “Drop Dead” August 17 and 18 at 7:30 p-m., and August 19 at 2:30 p-m. at the Kings Mountain Woman's Club. This is the final presentation of the 2000-01 season. The comedy-mystery will be directed by Andy Neisler, who recently attended a showing of the play directed by Olivia Dukakis at Charlotte Repertoire Theatre. Some of the cast members are . Neisler, Jerry Ledford, Emily Ledford, Bethany Falls, Jennifer Falls, Jesse Moschler, Teresa Williams and Amy Robinson. The plot centers around a dress rehearsal for a play. Tickets will be sold at the door. Students graduate from Gaston College Karen H. Baldonado, Lucille Bolden, Derick Bumgardner, Yolanda Burris, Caleb George, Georgia Hagans, Bobby Mantooth and Latoya Pettis, all of Kings Mountain, received de- grees during summer com- mencement exercises Friday at Gaston College.
