Over 20 local high school stu- dents have joined together to make the community more aware of teen prégnancy’s effect on Cleveland County. As of 1998, the county had a teen pregnancy rate of 108.5 per 1,000 teens versus 85.5 for the state. About 10% of Cleveland County teens become pregnant before the age of 20. During 1993-97, almost one-third (32.9%) of these teens had a re- peat pregnancy before the age 0 Students from all four county high schools have worked since February to develop the forum to discuss the reality of teen pregnancy as it impacts their lives. Students developed the agenda, marketing materials, and will carry out the program.
