A native of Cherokee County, SC, he was the son of the late James Robert and Julia Morris Norman. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Roy and Max Norman. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was a life- time member of the North American Hunters Association. He was retired from Industrial Minerals Inc., Kings Creek, SC, + and was a former employee of ’ i Fiber Industries, Earl. He served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hawkins Norman of © Blacksburg, SC; sons, Carlton + Norman and wife Pamela, Chris Norman and wife Cindy, and Jeff Norman, all of Blacksburg; daughter, Leslie ‘Norman Jones and husband ~ Greg of Summerville, SC; broth- ers, Summie Norman of Kings Mountain and James E. Norman of Blacksburg; sisters, Pauline Watterson and Mary Reid Conner, both of Blacksburg, Margaret Smith of Kings Mountain, and Ruby Huskey of Henrietta; and six grandchildren, Jessica Jones, Lacey Jones, Chase Norman, Carlie Norman, Bradley Norman, and Brittany Norman. A native of York County, SC, he was the son of the late Raymond and Gladys Crawford Purvis. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and James Purvis. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a self-employed diesel mechanic. He was the Associate Pastor at Living Word Church on Signal Mountain. He is survived by his wife, Melita Traywick Purvis; daugh- ter, Wendy Michelle Martin of Chesterfield, SC; two stepchil- dren, Larry Shane Briggs of Blacksburg, SC, and Nichole Shirlene Manery of Signal Mountain, TN; brother, Richard Purvis of Signal Mountain; and five grandchildren. October 11, 2001 Police investigate robberies at Main Attraction, Subway Kings Mountain Police are in- vestigating two armed rob- beries which occurred on Friday and Saturday. On Friday at 10 p.m., police ‘were called to Main Attraction Video at the Westgate Plaza. Officers were told a black male entered the store and bran- dished a handgun, then de- ~ manded money from the clerk. According to Cpl. R.S. Davis, the suspect left the store on - foot. He is described as a black . tem Miolhton male wearing a black shirt and jeans. He was slim built and ap- proximately 6-1. An undisclosed amount of money was taken. On Saturday at 9:33 p.m., po- lice were called to Subway, 105 - York Road, where they found that a suspect had entered the store and brandished a hand- gun and demanded money from the clerk. According to Davis, the man : left the restaurant on foot. The suspect is described as a black man wearing dark cloth- ing. He was approximately 5-7, medium build.
