A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late James Willie and Hattie Hoyle Downey and wife of the late Jessie Richard Smith. She was also preceded in death by her . brother, Jim Downey; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Joe Black; and great-grandchildren, Joseph Quay Dockery and Alexa Paige Dockery. She was formerly employed by McGill Clinic and Kings Mountain Hospital.
