Over 275 cyclists from the area showed up for Saturday’s seventh annual Toy Run, sponsored
by Murphey’s Scooter Shed of Kings Mountain. All participants brought along toys that were
given to Kings Mountain Shriners for distribution to children at their Shriners Hospitals.
Following the run the bikers were treated to a barbecue lunch at Murphey’s Scooter Shed. The
Toy Run has come a long way from its first year, when eight bikers participated.

Fire Department has issued
cold weather safety tips.
e Have heaters checked by an
authorized dealer.
* Home heating devices need
a 36 inch clearance from com-
bustibles.
° When using space heaters,
always read the owner’s manu-
al and operate according to fac-
tory recommendations.
e Portable kerosene heaters
must be fueled only in a well-
ventilated area, free of flames
and only when the device has
cooled completely. Use only the
type of kerosene specified by
the manufacturer for that de-
vice, and never use gasoline in-
stead of kerosene. Also, be sure
that portable kerosene heaters
are legal home use in your com-
munity.
e Always fuel heaters out-
side.
Never use drop cords to
power electric heaters or appli-
ances.
¢ Never go to bed with space
heaters lit or left on.

stall batteries in smoke and car-
detectors are also available for
the elderly or anyone who can
not afford to purchase one.

Employment Outlook Suftvey.
The report, indicates 17 per-
cent of firms interviewed expect
their payrolls to increase in the
new year, 10 percent say fewer
workers will be needed, and 73 :
percent intend to stay at current |
levels.
“In the survey of three
months ago employers were
more hopeful when 17 percent
anticipated staffing up and 3
percent saw reductions,” Pat
Bailey of Manpower said.
“A year ago conditions were
favorable for the January-March
period as 33 percent planned
work force additions, while 13
