County, he was the son of the

death by his

Carson,
Luke Carson
and Paul
Carson; and
sisters, Lois
Spicer, Estelle Fowler and
Bonnie Wilson.
He was a member of Liberty
Baptist Church, Gastonia, and
was formerly employed with
AB Carter, Inc.
He is survived by his sen,
Ralph Carson and wife Melissa
Lynn of Lincolnton; daughter,
Catherine Elizabeth True and
husband Jon of Sommerset, FL;
and three grandchildren,
Ashley Stroupe, Samatha
Stroupe and David Carson.
The funeral was conducted
by the Revs. Robert Ammons Jr.
and Wayne Kirk at 3 p.m.

was also predeceased by two
sisters, Lemmons and Mabel
Tessneer.
He was the oldest member of
Sandy Run Baptist Church. He
was a member of the Builders
Sunday School Class and had
also served as a Deacon and
R.A. leader. He was a U.S. Navy
Seaman First Class and was re-
tired from Shelby Mill
Company.
He is survived by his son,
Roger Devon of Sharon, SC;
daughters, Norma
Biggerstaff of Cliffside and Judy
Bowen of Mooresboro; son-in-
law, Junior Bowen of
Mooresboro; sisters, Rose
Tessneer of Grover and Corene
Schuster of Fort Myers, FL; 11

in North Carolina
The recent burning ban of
open fires in North Carolina has
been lifted.

KM gets $362,977
in Powell Bill funds '
The City of Kings Mountain
recently received $362,977.78 in
Powell Bill funds. Grover re-
ceived $28,676.77.
The funds are generated by
the state gas tax and other high-
way user fees, and are dis-
persed annually using a formu-
la set by the N.C. General
Assembly. Seventy-five percent
of the funds are based on popu-
"lation, and 25 percent is based
on the number of city-owned |
streets.
The State DOT allocated a
record $135.4 million to 500 mu-
nicipalities across the State.
Charlotte received the most
funds, $17.5 million, and
Spencer Mountain in Gaston -
County received the least,
$1,937. :
Funds help cities deal with
urban road problems. Powell
Bill Funds, named for former
Whiteville mayor Junius K.
Powell, began in 1951 when
$4.5 million was allocated.
