The bride-to-be is a graduate of Clover High
School and York Technical College. She is
employed as a Surgical Technologist at
Carolinas Medical Center One Day Surgery in
Charlotte.
The groom-to-be is a graduate of Kings
Mountain High School and is employed by
M&T Plumbing of Kings Mountain.
A spring 2002 wedding is planned.

Valerie Megan Bambalis of Huntersville, to Billy
Anthony Wilson Jr. of Charlotte, son of Bill and
Linda Wilson of Gastonia.
The bride-to-be graduated UNC Charlotte i in
elementary education. She is employed as a
kindergarten teacher at Blythe Elementary
School in Huntersville.
The prospective bridegroom graduated
UNCC with a BA in criminal justice and sociol-
ogy, and a masters in public administration. He
is employed at Pinkerton /Choicepoint as a
criminal background specialist.
A March 30 wedding is planned.

concert Friday, March 1 at 7:30
p-m. in the auditorium of
Cleveland Community College.

for purchase at the conclusion of
the performance.

Jenaifor Smith wins Whitener
piano scholarship competition
Jennifer Smith won the
General Federation of Woman's
Clubs of North Carolina District
IIT Whitener Piano Scholarship
competition recently held at the
Kings Mountain Woman's Club.
Smith will compete on March
23 at the State Arts Festival for
the prestigious Whitener
Scholarship. The scholarship in
piano is $1,000 per year, award-
ed annually at the State Arts
Festival in Winston-Salem. Its
period of tenure is four years.
Smith is the daughter of
David and Nancy Smith of
Kings Mountain and has been
studying piano for 11 years. She
is presently studying with John
Whitaker of the Southern Park
Music School in Charlotte. She
has also studied with Libby
Putnam and Linda Dixon of
Kings Mountain.
She said her aspirations are to
be a concert pianist. She said she
would like to study at Peabody
Conservatory in Baltimore, MD.
She has been offered scholar-
ships at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill and
University of North Carolina at
Greensboro music departments.
She recently played with the
Charlotte Civic Orchestra and
will play with the Charlotte
Symphony in April. She plays
for the early service at First
Baptist Church in Kings
Mountain and also plays for the
Senior Adult Choir each Tuesday
morning. She won a scholarship
to attend the Summer Brevard
Music Center last summer.

Reports from all State Officers
and District Directors were pre-
sented on Sunday, followed by a
dinner in the ballroom of the
hotel. Pianist, Susan McLain,
presented music.
Monday's activities included
reports from all committees. The
Colonel Hambright Chapter
welcomed nine new members
this year and received an award
for a large increase in member-
ship. Four other ladies who now
have their applications in
shop.
Betty P. Masters from the
Colonel Frederick Hambright
Chapter was nominated by
Nancy Poston of the Flint Hills
Chapter to serve on the state
nominating committee for the
coming year. A slate of new
state officers will be presented
to the membership at the State
Conference in February 2003.
The Colonel Hambright
Chapter received 10 awards this
year, including the Gold Honor
Washington will be joining the
Award for participating in many
activities. A resolution, “Call to
Action,” from the chapter was
approved and sent to
Washington.
