KM'’s Mathews to play at Allen University Kings Mountain High student Adonis Mathews Monday signed a letter of intent to play football at Allen University in Columbia, SC. Allen, coached by Robert M. Hemby II, has been playing club football and is organizing a Division IIT program. Allen will play club teams this fall. “This is an excellent opportu- nity for Adonis to be in on the ground floor of a new pro- gram,” said KMHS head coach Dave Farquharson. “He was a two-year starter for us on the defensive line. He was one of our strongest kids in the weight room.” Mathews, who is 5-11, 190 pounds, said he welcomes the opportunity to play at Allen and plans to stay there four years. He is lifting weights and running daily, hoping to get to at least 200 pounds before the start of practice in August. Mathews also wrestled three years for the Mountaineers and made All-Conference his junior year. Bob is an inspiration to all who see him work out. He is living proof that you can maintain good health in your later years.” Johnson, who lives in Shelby, retired from Overnite in Gaffney, SC with 30 ygars service.
