Four KM athletes earn scholarships Four Kings Mountain 'High senior athletes received $500 scholarships at Tuesday’s KM Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony at B.N. Barnes Auditorium. Heather Kubu won the scholarship given by Carl and Pat Champion in honor of Hall of Fame President Gary Stewart. LaDricus Gingles won the scholarship given by the KMHS Booster Club. Matt Varner and Maegan Spicer won the two scholar- ships given by the City of Kings Mountain. Three wins keep Patriots Kings Mountain Middle Schools baseball team clinched at least a tie for the Tri-County Conference champi- onship last week by winning three games to run their record to 11-0. Monty Deaton’s Patriots defeated Shelby 16-3, Burns 14-2 and Lincolnton 12-1. All three games were called after six Innings. Four pitchers combined for a no-hit- ter in Monday's victory over Shelby. Trey Glass pitched two innings and. struck out four; Junior Ruff pitched 2 1/3 innings and struck out seven; Kevin Bell pitched 2/3 of an inning and fanned one; and Adam Sellers pitched one inning and struck out three. Basketball camp set at KM High The Kings Mountain High School basketball camp will be held May 27-June 1 from 8 a.m.-12 noon. Boys and girls ages 2-8 are eligible. The cost is $50. Each camper will receive a basketball, t-shirt, handbook and certificate. Trophies will be awarded to outstanding campers and obstacle course winners. Applications are available from Tocal physical educa- tion teachers ‘or by calling . All players are enrolled in a program with a corporate sponsor, who gives athletic or academic scholarships to select campers. Baseball camp set at KM High School The 2002 Mountaineer Baseball Camp will be held June 3-6 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Lancaster Field. Mountie softball team drops pair Kings Mountain High's women’s softball team fell to Burns 9-0 and Crest 19-11 during the past week. On Tuesday afternoon, the Mountaineers were limited to one hit - a single by Kristin Hardin - in a home broke the game open with seven runs Glass went 3-for-4 to lead the Patriots at the plate.
