conducted at 2 p.m.
Saturday in Chapel Hill
Memorial Cemetery.

Street, died April 29, 2002 at
Gaston Memorial Hospital,
Gastonia.
A native of Gaston
County, he was the son of
the late Robert and Emma
Jane Hawkins Pearson. He
was a former member of
Cherokee Street Baptist
Church and was a member
of American Legion Otis D.
Green Post 155. He was
retired from Burlington
Industries and served in the
United States Army during
World War II.
He is survived by his wife,
Margaret Goins Pearson of
Kings Mountain; son,
Claude S. “Bub” Pearson
and wife Kay of Kings
Mountain; daughter, Alice
Faye Pearson Appling and
husband Larry of Gastonia;

Road, died April 25, 2002 at
Carolinas Medical Center in
Charlotte.
A native of Cleveland
County, she was the daugh-
ter of the late John William
Hawkins and Docia Luetta
Pearson Hawkins. She was
also preceded in death by
brothers Robert Hawkins,
P.A. Hawkins, Crayton
Hawkins, A.R. Hawkins,
Clarence Hawkins and Ken
Hawkins; and sisters Zellie
Hamrick, Susan Wood, Nicie
Kelly and Ethel Pittman.
She was a member of
Chestnut Ridge Baptist
Church, where she taught
Sunday School for 37 years.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her
husband of 64 years, Rev.
Mitchell M. Pruitt of Kings
Mountain; sons, Mike Pruitt
and wife Becky and Douglas
Pruitt and wife Lynn, all of
Kings Mountain, and
Donald Pruitt and wife
Rhonda of Hickory; daugh-
ter, Pat Pruitt Thomas and
husband Jim of Shelby; 13
grandchildren and 20 great-
grandchildren.
The funeral was conduct-
ed by the Revs. Mitchell
Pruitt and Mickey Pruitt at 2
p-m. Sunday at Chestnut
Ridge Baptist Church. Burial
was in the church cemetery.

Beatrice Laws Barnes, 87,
formerly of Kings Mountain,
died Saturday, April 27, 2002
at McDowell Nursing
Center.
She was the daughter of
the late J.D. Laws and Cora
Lee Robinson Laws, and
wife of the late Jesse Barnes.
The new Acquisition
Militia will have a
Revolutionary War encamp-
ment. The group will con-
duct musket demonstrations
on Saturday and Sunday.
Local militia such as this
contributed to the American
victory at Kings Mountain.
Rifles, muskets and other = °
small arms will be dis-
cussed.
The Guilford Courthouse
Fife and Drum Corps will
perform at 11:15 and 2:30. -
Visitors are encouraged to
spend the day at the park.
Admission is free.
Kings Mountain National
Military Park is open week-
days from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and
from 9 a.m-6 p.m. weekends
