She was a native of ; Mecklenburg County, and attended Lenoir-Rhyne College. : She is survived by her parents, W.K. and Mary Simpson Mauney Jr. of Kings Mountain; brother, W.K. “Kemp” Mauney 111 and wife Debbie of Kings Mountain; and sister, Sarah Frances Faunce and hus- band David of Kings Mountain. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Joe and Eliza Ann Barrett Porter and wife of the late Ed Ellis Causby. She was also preceded in death by her son, Julius “Nesby” Causby; daughter, Florene Causby; grand- daughter, Patsy Petty Lovelace; grandsons, Ronald and harvey Causby; great- great granddaughter, Shayla Moore; daughters-in-law, Vernie Davis Causby and Annell Wright Causby; sons- in-law, Lewis Henderson and John Petty; brothers, Neal Porter, Benjamin Porter, Phil Porter, Jim Porter and Vernon Porter; and sisters, Vergie Porter Causby, Josephine Porter Hord and Emma Pearl Porter Hord. She was a lifelong mem- ber of Buffalo Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Joe Causby and wife Martha, Sam Causby and Eddie Ray Causby, all of Shelby; daughters, Gertrude Causby Petty of Shelby, Emma Sue Causby Henderson of Kings Mountain, and Margaret Causby Lee and husband Lowell and Wanda Causby Lewis and husband B.B., all of Shelby; grandchildren, Larry Gene Causby, Geraldine Petty Transiskus, and Judy Grigg Smith, all of Shelby; JoRene Causby Chandler of Florida, Robin Causby Bridges, Lisa Causby Hubbard, Sheila Lewis Davis, Kathy Lewis Phillips, and Robert Alan Lewis, all of Shelby; 26 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren. MARTHA SUE YAWN ROCK HILL, SC. - Martha Sue Yawn, 86, died May 27, 2002 at the home of her son, Herman Yawn. A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Charles Forest Stowe and Martha Catherine Stowe and wife of the late Herman Herbert Yawn Sr. She was a where she was an All-State guard for the Kings Mountain Mountaineer basketball team. She retired from Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company. She was an active volunteer with Hope Inc. and was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. She was a volunteer for the S.T.A.R. project at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her sons, Herman H. Yawn Jr. of Rock Hill, Charles C. Yawn of Isle of Palms, SC, and Joe F. Yawn of Saluda, SC; daughter, Catherine Y. Richardson of Austin, TX; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A family burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain. A memori- al service will be conducted by Dr. Robert Schrum at 2 p.m. at Oakdale Baptist Church. Van Valen of Kings Mountain, recently ‘partici- pated in exercise Sea Soldier ‘02 while assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, home based at Camp Pendleton, CA. Marines honed their skills during the 12-day live-fire training exercise with sol- - diers from the Western Frontier Regiment of the 0% OFF BEDDING PLANTS in exercise Royal Army of Oman. Marines employed medium and heavy machine guns, grenades, mortars, pyrotech- nics, demolitions and shoul- der-fired anti-tank muni- tions. The exercise was per- formed more than two weeks after Van Valen’s unit successfully completed offensive raids against Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Van Valen is a 2000 gradu- ate of Roxbury High School of Succasunna, NJ. He joined the Marines in July 2000. SIPE REUNION & FRIENDS Sunday, June %th 12:30pm-4:00pm American Legion Kings Mountain May 30,2002 Real to Ree film festival slated at Joy The Cleveland County Arts Council will present its third annual Real to Reel Film and Video Festival, and the screenings will be July 18-21 at 7 p.m. at the Joy Performance Center, Railroad Avenue, Kings Mountain. Many of the films are of a mature theme and parents are encouraged to call the Arts Council at 484-2787 for questions and information. There will also be an installation exhibition at the Arts Center in Shelby July 13-21. The exhibit will fea- ture film memorabilia, antique cameras and reels, projectors, and movie stills. The festival's mission is to offer a forum for independ- ent film, video and multi- media artists to showcase their talents and garner award winning name recog- nition. Over 70 films of all genres from all over the U.S. and several foreign countries have poured into Cleveland County. There will be a “Night With The Stars” premier party on Saturday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Arts Center. The evening's festivities include a sneak preview of the films that will be screened, food and bever- ages, and a silent auction. Items such as scripts from movies, trips to famous movie locations, movie passes and movie memora- bilia will be available to the highest bidder at the end of the week.
