KM Military Park seeking
volunteers for demonstrations
Kings Mountain National
Military Park is offering a
rare opportunity for those
interested in living history.
The park is forming a reen-
‘actment group to perform
living history demonstra-
tions and is recruiting vol-
unteers to join its ranks.
Under the guidance of
park rangers and other reen-
actors, members of the
Backcountry Militia will
acquire the knowledge and
skills necessary to perform
living history demonstra-
tions.
Volunteers will have the
opportunity to learn martial
skills such as drilling and
firing flintlock weapons, as
well as other colonial crafts
and trades. Interested per-
sons are encouraged to
apply. No experience or
equipment is necessary. The
park will provide uniforms,
accoutrements and training.
Men and women are both
welcome to join the militia,
as are families.
Park volunteers will have
the opportunity to partici-
pate in weekend encamp-
ments, musket demonstra-
tions and other living histo-
ry events at the park.
Members will have the
opportunity to attend spe-
cial events at other sites as
well. Through special train-
ing sessions, skilled reenac-
tors and historians will pro-
vide insight into topics such
as clothing, medicine, cook-
ing, gunsmithing, etc.
For more information
about enlisting in the mili-
tia, contact Park Rangers
Chris Revels or Bert
Dunkerly at 864-936-7321.
