The service was the idea of about 12 pastors who meet weekly to pray. And while it was the one of the first multi-denomina- tional services in the city, one pastor said there may be more to come. “This is just a first of many to come,” Lorenzo Miller, Grace and Mercy Ministries Pastor said. That sentiment was echoed by River of Life Pastor Bobby Quinn. “The prayer was we become one,” he said. That was manifested during the week, he said. People participating in the services also expressed their enjoyment. “We need to come togeth- er more often,” George Moore said. The speaker for the week's services was not chosen until pastors drew a name. Although someone else was already chosen, Rev. Billy Houze filled in and preached about unity. One of the ways he tried to get people together more was by asking the people to sit beside someone they do not worship with on Sunday morning. Houze talked of getting rid of a spiritual enemy and, while talking, he talked faster and had the crowd clapping their hands and saying “Amen.” “What Fives 8 tHe right lov to say wheGod aes?” Houze said during his mes- sage. Houze said although he may disagree with his - brothers, he stands by them. The people who carried out the September 11 attacks did not care about race, he said. Houze had people chanti- ng, getting up and pastors raised their bibles in agree- ment to what he said. During his sermon, Houze would pause and people would ask him to keep going. He would also stop and wipe his face of perspiration. Since the sermon includ- ed a varied group of peo- ple, so was one of the ritu- als. When the offering was taken, people came to the front to give money with others holding the plate. The offering will be used for the week's expenses and any left over will go to the Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry, officials said. At the close of the serv- ice, it was ended with one of the objectives of the week - unity. Most of Friday's atten- dees held hands and stretched across the perime- ter of the sanctuary’s lower level. Make Someone’s Week Bring a little sunshine into someone's life.
