The Executive Committee

Democratic Party will meet
Monday, Sept. 23 at 6:30
p.m. at the’clubhouse at
Gardner-Webb University in
Boiling Springs.
The committee will dis-
cuss the September 10 pri-
mary, the November elec-
tion, and upcoming events.
The group will also elect a
party secretary, distribute
fair tickets and schedules,
and discuss party dates and
the cookbook.
This will be a supper
meeting, provided by the

Cotton will be ginned
every two hours. There will
also be a Historic Village
featuring craft demonstra-
tions such as blacksmithing,
spinning,
papermaking/bookbinding,
basket making, chair caning,
dulcimer making and broom
making.
There will be activities
such as arts and craft sale,
cakewalks, a kid's country
fair, train rides, pony rides
and bluegrass music.

Ballenger names
local committee
Congressman Cass
Ballenger has announced the
appointment of Cleveland
County residents to his 2002
campaign steering commit-
tee.
They are John Cline, Billy
Estes, Kelly Hastings, Jennie
Jones, Kathy Livsie and
Wayne King.
Committee members will
help in all facets of the
Congressman’s campaign
within the county. They will
advise him on local issues
and priorities, develop cam-
paign strategy, coordinate
campaign events and
appearances, and recruit
campaign volunteers.
Ballenger has represented
the 10th District since 1986.
He serves on the Committee
on Education and the
Workforce and on the
International Relations
Committee, where he chairs
the Western hemisphere
subcommittee.
He is founder and chair-
man of the board of Plastic
Packaging, Inc., in Hickory.
_ Tourism Authority
distributes grants
During a special meeting
Friday, the Kings Mountain
Tourism Development
Authority distributed
money to various applicants
for tourism-related projects
in Kings Mountain.
The city-approved com-
mittee was appointed to dis-
tribute $16,576 from a three
percent hotel occupancy tax.
According to Authority
member Tim Waters all but
two of the applicants
received money.
Waters declined to name
the recipients pending their
notification.
Utility Committee
approves requests
The Kings Mountain
Utility Committee recom-
mended three actions for
City Council to take during :
its meeting Tuesday.
The Committee recom-
mended approving phase
two utility and street exten-
sions for the Hall Crossing
subdivision.
It also made recommend-
ed approving changes con-
cerning the street cross sec-
tion and dumpster pads.
Both items are expected to
be incorporated into the
city’s design guidelines.
Klotz joins staff
of CENT, Gastonia
Darrell A. Klotz, M.D., the
region’s only fellowship-
trained laryngologist, has
joined Carolina Ear, Nose &
Throat (CENT) in Gastonia.
Laryngology involves the
diagnosis and treatment of
voice disorders and swal-
lowing disorders.
Laryngologists also provide

and others whose voices are
their livelihood.
Klotz received his M.D.
from the University of
Rochester School of
Medicine and Dentistry in
Rochester, NY, before going
on to complete both a
General Surgery Internship
and an Otolaryngology
Residency at the same uni-
versity. He was then award-
ed a Laryngology
Fellowship in the
Department of
Otolaryngology at the
University of Washington
School of Medicine in
Seattle, WA.
