The team enjoyed a cookout before the awards ceremony. Coaches Aaron Allen and Barbara Franklin were pres- ent to hand out medals and trophies to all swimmers that competed in the sum- mer meets. There were high point winners for those in their age group who had the most points over the long courses season. For the 15 and over . boys, Colby Wollak had 69 points. Michael Allen had 226 points for the 13-14 boys. William Quarles got 97 points fot the 11-12 year old boys, and James Detter! earned 93 points for th&10* under group. For the girls, Michelle Jones won for the 13-14 year olds with 81 points. Ashley Quarles had 84 points for the 11-12 year old girls. Sarah Hovis had 92 points for the 10-under girls and Ashley Cain had 75 points for the 8-under girls. Also winning trophies and medals were Taylor Rippy, Phaedra Mangan, Katelyn Latham, Clara Owen, Lorrin Plyler, Sarah Catherine Greenlee, Brooks McGinnis, Lacey Beam, Mary Grace Owen, Charlie Jones, Alyssa Ponder, Shannon Kay, Chandler Kay, Brittany Beam and Ozzy Canipe. The Cyclones will start their short course season’on September 21. KMA will be hosting the meet at Neisler Natatorium in Kings Mountain. The public is invited to attend the meet. Anyone interested in join- ing the team should call Coach Aaron Allen at Kings Mountain High School. Childers hurls one-hitter for KM Morgan Childers hurled a one-hitter and struck out nine to lead Kings Mountain Middle School’s girls soft- ball team to a 10-0 victory over Pumpkin Center 3 Thursday. Childers gave up the only hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. Childers also slammed a three-run home run as KM won its sixth straight game of this year and 18th straight over the past two seasons. . In a game last week, Childers hurled the win and Laura Weigel slammed a triple and had five runs bat- ted in to lead the Lady Patriots to a 12-3 victory over West Lincoln. JV Mountaineers lose to Forestview Kings Mountain High's JV football team dropped its second game in three starts Thursday night at Gastonia Forestview, 42-13. J.J. McClain scored a rush- ing touchdown and Brian Gibson caught a touchdown pass from Ryan Burton for the only, Kings) Mountain scores: Matiz] Norris’ lige well for the Mountaineers on defense, but KM didn’t have an answer for Forestview running back Terrell Harris, who gained 135 yards and scored on runs of 46 and 10 yards. Josh Martin scored on a 27-yard touchdown run for the Jaguars, and also inter- cepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. Jawann Wilson scored on a 50-yard run and Josh Jackson scored from 15 yards out. Kings Mountain travels to Shelby tonight at 7 o’clock. Local girl to play in Blacksburg game Megan Propst, daughter of Grover native Vickie Turner Propst and her husband Tom, will be playing volley- ball for Southside Christian School of Simpsonville, SC in a game Thursday at 5:30 p-m. at Blacksburg High School. Propst is the granddaugh- ter of Martha Turner of Grover. Cheer competition set in Taylorsville Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville will host the Carolinas Foothills Classic cheerleading compe- tition September 28.
