: Barrett. MILITARY NEWS Michael H. “Mikey” Whitaker recently complet- ed eight weeks of boot camp lin the U.S. Navy in Great Lakes, Chicago, IL. His division #942 was the performing division for the company. Whitaker is a first class fireman and third class swimmer, and received his first medal for serving in war time. He is a member of the Navy's Bluejacket Chorus. He is being stationed in ~ Texas to begin his schooling for dentistry. Whitaker is a 2002 gradu- ate of Kings Mountain High School, where he was a member of the Chorus and Kings Review. He has an older sister, Sabrina {Whitaker Gabriele, who is in ithe U.S, arines 'Missoutt; and a 9- -year-old brother, Caleb Whitaker. Whitaker is the son of Michael and Tammy Knox Whitaker of Grover. He is the grandson of Harvey and Louise Whitaker of Kings Mountain and William and Gertrude Knox of Grover. WRECKS A vehicle driven by Jami Holcomb of Kings Mountain hit a sidewalk, sign and util- ity pole on U.S. 74 Business near North Cansler Street. There was $3,000 damage to the vehicle and $3,000 to the sign and utility pole. Holcomb was charged with DWI and no operator's license. A vehicle driven by Angelita Foster of Bessemer City struck a sign in the median of Cleveland Ave. at 74 Bypass West. Damage to the vehicle was $1,000. Damage to the sign was $50. She told police she ran over something in the roadway which caused her to have to jerk her steering wheel. Vehicles driven by Fannie Cobb of Kings Mountain and Gerri Griffin of Gastonia struck on NC 161 at the entrance to the park- ing lot of Burger King. Damage to the Cobb vehicle was $1,600 and damage to the Griffin vehicle was $2,400. Vehicles driven by Christopher Jolly of Kings Mountain and Wendell McMurry of Belmont struck on Phifer Rd. Damage to the Jolly vehicle was $1,800 and damage to the McMurry vehicle was $2,500. Vehicles driven by Jennifer Regan and Shaunca Starkes, both of Kings Mountain, and Stephenie Stark of Shelby struck on Phifer Rd. near Fulton Dr. Damage to the Regan vehicle was $1,000 and damage to the Starkes vehicle was $1,500.
