Beam Financial Advisor BEN From 4A school’s honor code by hav- ing a school official change a former athlete’s grade. He has already had a vete of no confidence from the school’s board of trustee's. Moments like this are typ- ical of the big schools that are on the news and in the paper for cheating and for making various other NCAA violations. Tiny Gardner-Webb College wanted to move up. It became a university. Then it started to compete in the NCAA's top division. Scandals and probation violations seem to be typical of schools that have as many students as some cities in this state. Now that it has joined Division I, Gardner-Webb makes itself more like those schools on ESPN and the sports pages of many news- papers. It has more coverage, more name recognition, more student applications and more events. With that comes the flip side of possible cover-ups, scandals and NCAA investi- gations.
