SAVE 300 off our already Jo off-season 1d Our patented offers the most durable JV Mountaineers hold on to defeat Burns 26- 20) By GARY STEWART Editor of The Herald Kings Mountain built a 26-6 first half lead and then had to hang on to defeat Burns 26- 20 in junior varsity football action Thursday night at John Gamble Stadium. The Mountaineers improved to 3-3 on the season. They travel to Crest tonight. Kings Mountain's running attack, led by bruising fullback J.J. McClain, hammered the Bulldogs during the first half but the offense bogged down in the second half after McClain and quarterback Ryan Burton went to the sidelines with minor injuries. Trailing 26-6, Burns took advantage of a pass interference call against KM to drive in for a one-yard touchdown run by Chris Geter with 16 seconds left in the third quar-. ter to cut the margin to 26-14. Leach got loose for a 55-yard pass reception and run for a touchdown to cut the difference to 26- 20 with 8:51 left in the game. Burns threatened again late in the game after recovering a KM fumble, but KM's Aaron Dellinger sealed the win with a pass interception and 30 yard return to the Burns nine yard line. in the first quarter when Leach intercepted a Ryan Burton pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown. The Mountaineers drove the ensuing kick- off 68 yards in just two plays, with McClain rambling 59 yards for the touchdown. On their next possession, the Mountaineers drove 66 yards to go up 14-6. John Quinn had a 40-yard run during the march, and McClain scored from a yard out behind good blocking from Louis Young, Steven Bolt and Craig Huffstetler to give the Mounties a 20-6 lead. Kings Mountain drove 66 yards late in the half to take a 26-6 halftime lead. Quinn cov- ered most of the yards on bursts off the left side of the line. Facing first and goal just inside the 10, Quinn broke through the line for what looked to be a touchdown run, but he fumbled just prior to crossing the goal line and KM wide receiver Nate Marable fell on the ball in the.end zone for the touch- down.
