Bridges Jr., son of Tommy and Ada Bridges Sr. of Kings Mountain, was ordained October 16 at First Baptist Church. Leading the charge was Rev. Dewey F. Powell of Good Hope Baptist in Oroda, VA. Dr. JW. “Chip” Sloan Jr., pastor of First Baptist, conducted the ordi- nation. Rev. Bridges is the new senior pastor of Bent Creek ° Baptist Church in Asheville. Bishop to speak at Trinity Episcopal The Rt. Rev. Robert H. Johnson will make his annu- al visit to Trinity Episcopal Church Sunday, October 20 at the 11 a.m. serv- ice. A buf- fet dinner will fol- low the service. Johnson was elect- jed Bishop Coadjutor of the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina in November 1988 and was consecrated Bishop Coadjutor of the diocese on March 11, 1989 at the Asheville Civic Center. He became the Diocesan Bishop on January 1, 1990. Before becoming a bishop, he was Rector of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church and Chairman of the Board of Holy Innocents” Episcopal School in Atlanta for 17 years. His relational, listen- ing, pastoral and adminis- trative skills have been major factors in his ministry ¥ Bishop Johhson hasa: Strong interest in cogATNT-AM ty ministry and an outreach tho those who are in need. He is also deeply involved in the nurture of parish cler- gy and their families and is active on the national lead- ership level of the Episcopal Church. Before going to Atlanta, Bishop Johnson served as Senior Canon, Canon Pastor, and Canon Precentor of St. John’s Cathedral in Jacksonville, FL. He began his ministry serving the. yoked parishes of Our Merciful Savior in New Berlin, FL and St. George in Fort George Island, FL. During this time he started the new parish of St. Martin- in-the-Highlands (now St. Elizabeth's), Jacksonville. He and his wife Julie have a son, Robert H. Johnson Jr., who is with First Union Bank and lives in Charlotte with his wife Pam and son. Their daughter, Katherine, is ‘married and lives in West Point, VA, with her husband Jeff and their three children. First Wesleyan collecting food First Wesleyan Church of Kings Mountain will hold a collection drive Saturday, october 19 from 9 a.m.-12 noon at Winn Dixie in the KM Plaza Shopping Center. Non-perishable items and can goods are needed. All items collected will go to a mission project support- ing Hephzibah Children’s Home in Macon, GA. Revival slated at Macedonia Revival will be held October 20-22 at 7 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, Kings Mountan. Guest speaker will be Rev. Greg Mathis. A nursery will be provid- ed. Gaston Baptists set fall meeting The Greater Gaston Baptist Association will have its annual fall meeting October 21-22. The first night session will be at Southside Baptist Church in Gastonia. The sec- ond night's session will be at Flint Groves Baptist, Gastonia. The association consists of 122 churches in Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln and Mecklenburg counties. Total membership is about 54,000 people. The theme is “Faith for the Challenge.” The agenda includes a new mission statement, 2002-03 funding plan for missions, ministry and evangelism, by-law changes, new Robert's Retreat guidelines, a new mission project with the Baptist Union of Great Britain, and updates on “Project Spirit.” The associa- tion will also vote on accept- ance of several new church- es. Fall festival set at Grace Methodist Grace United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain, will hold a fall festival Saturday, October 26 from 5- 8 p.m. There will be fun and games, prizes and food for children and adults. Blood drive set at Grace Methodist Grace United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain, will host a Halloween Blood Drive October 31 from 12:30- 5 p.m. All eligible donors are encouraged to give blood.
