Page 2B The Kings Mountain Herald Eos November 21, 2002 WENDY ANN WRIGHT RYAN DANIEL ROPER Wright-Roper Wendy Ann Wright and Ryan Daniel Roper have announced their plans to be married on January 11, 2003. The bride-to-be is the daughter of John S. and Cathy G. Wright of Kings Mountain. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Lucy Gaddy, Mrs. Gertie Wright, Otis Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Stough Wright, and the late Thurman - Gaddy. She is a 1995 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and a 2000 graduate of Gaston College School of Nursing. She is employed by Cleveland Regional Medical Center Intensive Care Unit, and Kings Mountain Fire Department. The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Randall A. and Joan L. Roper of Fallston. He is the grandson of Marie Lewis, the late Daniel Lewis, and the late Katie and Albert Roper. He is a 1992 graduate of Burns High School and a 1994 graduate of Cleveland Community College. He is employed by Spectrum Dyed Yarns in the maintenance department. Barrett Family holds reunion The annual reunion of the descendants of Ben and Lilly Barrett was held October 27 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Attendees included Zelma Greene, Odell Barrett, and Rev. Wray Barrett, children of Ben and Lilly. : A short business meeting pre- ceded the meal, which consisted of everyone's favorite covered dish recipes. The tables were decorated with a Fall harvest theme and a drawing was held for door prizes. Everyone joined hands for the closing prayer. KM Hospital plans Tree of Love Contributions for the “Tree of Love” are being taken by the Kings Mountain Hospital Auxiliary. For a contribution of $10 or more a crystal angel will be placed on the tree in honor or memory of someone. The auxiliary will send acknowl- edgements of the contribution to the person being honored or to the family of the one being memorialized and invite them to the tree lighting ceremony to be held December 4 at 5 p.m. in the lobby of Kings Mountain Hospital. The public is also invited. There will be a short program. Peggy Baird, Auxiliary President, will introduce the program. There will be music and a devotion given by a local minister. All contributions will go into the scholarship fund with the auxiliary paying all expenses for the project. The scholarship will be presented to a high school senior going into a medical career. Vocal competition at Lincoln Center The Heafner/ Williams Vocal Competition will be held April 12-13, 2003 at the Lincoln Cultural Center. The event seeks to identify and offer assistance to highly talented vocalists and to encourage the theatrical vocal arts. Over $3,000 will be awarded in cash prizes. Competition is open to singers ages 17-40 who are residents of Burke, Catawba, Gaston, Cleveland, Lincoln and Iredell counties. Deadline for applying is January 15, 2003. Earl yule parade slated December 1 The 5th annual Earl Christmas Parade will be held Sunday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m The parade theme is “Honoring those who protect and serve.” There will be judging of floats. There is no entry fee but entries must be received by November 21. ‘Mostly Smiles’ grief program set Cleveland County Hospice will host its “Mostly Smiles Winter Wonderland” Saturday, November 23 at the Hospice Administration Building . The one-day retreat is for chil- dren ages 6-16 who have experi- enced a death in their lives.
