Luncheon honors civil servants for hard work during ice storm BY ABIGAIL WOLFORD Staff Writer They worked night and day during the ice storm to restore electricity, clear road- ways, and protect the citizens of Kings Mountain. For the last three weeks, they have worked tirelessly to repair the power lines, clear debris, and return Kings Mountain to its pre-storm state. Now it is time to thank them. On Wednesday, December 18, the city showed its appreciation for its workers by holding a luncheon in their honor. A banner reading, “Thank you. GELOT, M.D. “This is in appreciation for all their hard work during the storm and all year,” said Mayor Rick Murphrey. Originally the luncheon was to include only those who worked during the storm, like the works and electric departments, said Murphrey. However, he decided to expand it to include all city associates since they were all affected in some way by the storm, he said. The buffet-style meal included chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, rolls, desert, and sweet tea. The workers ate in shifts during their lunch breaks. Some arrived at 11 a.m., when the luncheon started, while others waited until later. The luncheon lasted until 1 p.m. Ro yon have 4 CD or IRA nd turing?
