City creates assistant clerk job BY ABIGAIL WOLFORD Staff Writer The City Council voted January 28 to create another position in the administra- tion office. “I think the city has grown to the point that we need more people to help with the work load,” said Jimmy Maney, interim city manager. The new position will be a full-time assistant city clerk. In December, a tem- porary position was approved to help with all of the extra work at the end of the year. However, Maney said the need for extra help is ongoing and suggested the addition of a permanent position in the administra- tion office. Councilman Gene White said he was in favor of the position; however, he felt it needed more discussion and proposed that the issue be tabled until next month. He said the delay would give Maney time to make a job description to advertise for the position. However, . Maney already had a job description ready and was ready to post the opening with the okay of the City Council. COUNCIL From 1A well as a map of the annexed area and a list of those owning property in that area, will be available to the public at least thirty days before the March meet- ing. The city will make a deci- sion on whether to annex the area on April 21. If they decide to annex the area, it will become effective on July 1,2004. The first taxes would be due in January, 2005. By annexing the area, the city would gain approxi- mately $332,085 in revenue and spend only $75,340 each year in services. Residents would pay taxes based on their property value on January 1, 2004. “We're just continuing to move forward,” said Mayor Murphrey. “To be a progres- sive city, we have to contin- ue to grow.” He said that the city has done much to try to assist Down Delivers! those who live in previously annexed areas. He cited the 20 houses that now receive sewer on West Gold Street as an example. The city spends approximately a mil- lion-and-a-half dollars on services for annexed areas, he said. The proposed annexation area includes six industrial sites: the Bindley Western building, Sara Lee Intimate Apparel, Reliance Electric, CommScope, NVR, and NK&K Wood Products. 1996 Chevy Caprice Classic Full Size, V8, Rear Wheel Drive, Only 57,000 miles.
