A native of Madisonville, TN, he was the son of the late John Brown and Missouri Phillips Anderson. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church and was retired from Riddle Fabrics. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Oleene Lockridge Anderson of Kings Mountain; sons, Pressley Anderson and Sammie Wayne Anderson of Kings Mountain; brother, J.B. Anderson of Kings Mountain; nieces and nephews. The funeral was conduct- ed by the Rev. Don Williams at 3 p.m. Sunday at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel. Interment was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. PETE SMITH BLACKSBURG, SC - Thurman D. “Pete” Smith, 76, 502 Holly Ridge Road, Mt. Paran Community, died Friday at the home of his daughter. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Roy Lee and Julia Elizabeth Sellars Smith and husband of the late Doris Jean Moss Smith. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a carpenter and a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of the Deacons. He is survived by his daughter, Susan S. Elliott of Blacksburg, SC; sons, Mike Smith of Kings Mountain and David Smith of *! Blacksburg; SC: Brother; Rev. + + Dean Smith of Kings &' 1:01 Mountain; and four grand- children. The funeral was conducted by the Revs. Chris Ozment and Darrell Revels at 2:30 p-m. Sunday at Mt. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Labon June and Flossie Simmons Cloninger and husband of the late Mary Etters “Sis” Cloninger. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jim Cloninger, and sisters Hazel Cloninger, Joyce Haynes and Dorothy Goforth. He was a member of Boyce Memorial ARP Church where he was a for- mer Deacon. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was retired from the textile industry. He is survived by his sons, E. Scott Cloninger and wife Kay of Kings Mountain, Alan Cloninger and wife Susan of Kings Mountain, and Rusty Cloninger and wife Rhonda of Belton, SC; brothers, Bob Cloninger of Mt. BEAULENIA ADAMS KINGS MOUNTAIN - Beaulenia Burris Adams, 86, 108 Goodall Drive, died March 26, 2003 at Hospice of Cleveland County. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Rev. Lymon and Bessie Perkins Burris and wife of the late Jerther Thomas Adams. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Jerther Thomas Adams Jr. and Hugh Jeffrey Adams Sr.; grandson, Hugh Jeffrey Adams Jr; great- grandson, Antawan Jeffrey McCluney; and four broth- ers, Lester, J.V., David and James Burris. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Queen Mary Court No. 5 Heroines of Jericho, and the Order of the Eastern Star Adah Chapter No. 7. She was retired from Kings Mountain Hospital Dietary Department after 30 years of service. She is survived by her daughter, Daphne L. Adams of the home; great-grandson, Donta B. Broadwater, 82, 500 Hawthorne Road, died April 1, 2003 at his home. A native of Scott County, VA, he was the son of the late John David and Ethel Minnich Broadwater and husband of the late Elizabeth “Libby” Broadwater. He was also preceded in death by broth- ers Clinton Broadwater and James Broadwater, and sister Sarah Broadwater. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a 1942 graduate of- Virginia Tech. He was a longtime employee of Foote Mineral. He served in the United States Army during World War Il in the European Theatre as 1st Lieutenant, serving with the 357th AAA Search Light Battalion. Democratic convention Saturday The annual Democratic County Convention will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the County Office Building on South Post Road. The meeting is open to all Democrats. Garrett, Jr, MD, president of the North Carolina Medical Board, announced today that R. David Henderson, JD, has been named the new execu- tive director of the Board. A member of the Board's legal staff since 1996, Henderson has served as interim execu- tive director of the Board since November 2002. The North Carolina Medical Board is the agency that licenses and regulates physicians, physician assis- tants, and nurse practition- ers in the state of North Carolina. It is made up of 12 members appointed by the governor for three-year terms. Henderson joined the Board's legal staff in September 1996, becoming one of the Board's leading prosecuting attorneys. From 1991 until joining the Board, he was deputy coun- sel at the North Carolina State Bar. In that post, he investigated grievances filed yp with the Bar alleging mis- conduct by North Carolina attorneys, represented the Bar in disciplinary and rein- statement hearings before the Disciplinary Hearing Commission, argued cases before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and served as administrator of the Client Security Fund (created by the Supreme Court in 1985 to reimburse those who suffer loss due to the dishonest conduct of a North Carolina attorney). Before joining the State Bar, Henderson was a senior associate with Silverstein & Hodgdon, of Raleigh. He is a cum laude graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and took his JD degree at the Wake Forest University School of Law.
