First National Bank
announces promotions
The Board of Directors of
First National Bank has
announced the following
promotions:
Larry C. Beasley - Vice
President/Retail Loan
Manager;
Beasley began his career in
banking in
1977,
working
in
Durham,
Gastonia,
Kings
Mountain
and
Shelby.
He was
bank man-
ager of
First Carolina Federal’s East
Dixon Boulevard Office
before the acquisition by
First National.
Beasley currently manages
a staff, of four in the Retail
Loan Center in the main
office location. In addition,
he has over-site responsibili-
ties for operations of the
- East Dixon office.
A Charlotte native,
Beasley served four years in
the U.S. Army Security
Agency. He attended
Cleveland Community
College, Limestone College,
and completed the Advance
Commercial Lending School
at East Carolina University.
Beasley is a member of the
Shelby Rotary Club and is a
past director of the Shelby
Boys and Girls Club and the
Kings Mountain Chamber.
He and his wife, Dorcas,
have one son, Larry Beasley,
Jr. They attend Elizabeth
Baptist Church. Beasley
enjoys golf and scuba div-
ing.

Robinson has over 30
years of banking experience.
He most recently was Vice
President and Financial
Service Manager with First
Citizens Bank in Rutherford
County. Robinson is a grad-
uate of East Carolina
University and served in the
United States Air Force.
Robinson is a past mem-
ber of the Board of Directors
of Cleveland County
Chamber. He also is a Past
President of Cleveland
County Arts Council,
Cleveland County Historical
Museum, and the Cleveland
County Girls Club.
Robinson enjoys sports,
shooting, is an avid history
buff, and is a member of the
Scottish American Society.
He presently serves as a
Prior of the Priory of St.
Thomas a Beckett for the
Knights Templar of North
Carolina.

Professional Certification
through NACHA.
Beck serves as secretary of
the Fallston Women’s Club
and is a member of the
Eastern Star. As a member
of Crestview Baptist Church,
she is active in Adult Choir,
Mission Friends, Youth
Sunday School, Puppets,
and Stickin with Jesus per-
formance team.
Beck and her husband,
Ricky, have two children,
Elizabeth and Zach. She
enjoys reading and spend-
ing time with her family.

enrolled in the network
technology degree program
at Cleveland Community
College.
Williams serves as secre-
tary/treasurer and teaches
adult Sunday School at Jesus
Way Mission Outreach
Ministry. She has four chil-
dren, Shawn, Sharma, Petey,
and Brianna. Williams
enjoys reading and televi-
sion.
WILLIAMS
JOHN BARBER SR.
KINGS MOUNTAIN - John Beatty Barber
Sr., 82, 103 Fulton Drive, died June 5, 2003 at
his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the
son of the late John Carroll Barber and Irene
Hambright Barber. He was also preceded in
death by his sisters, Mary Benson Bass and
Elaine Bass; brothers, Roy Quentin Barber,
David Homer Barber, George Kermit Barber,
and Jasper Dennis Barber; and sister-in-law,
Wallace Peeler Barber.
He was a retired barber and was also
retired from Neisler Textiles, Inc. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Air Force with service
during World War II, and was a member of
Macedonia Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hughes
Barber of the home; sons, John Barber Jr. of
Kings Mountain and Steve Barber and wife
Cindy of Lincolnton; sister and husband,
Eudora Anne Ratcliffe and Robert A. of
Pinehurst; brother-in-law, Oscar Bass Jr. of
Charlotte; sister-in-law, Judy Rathbone
Barber of Charlotte; grandchildren, Audra
Price, Michael, Kevin, Steele, Tara, Ashley
and Taylor Barber; great-grandchildren,
Brison Barber and Garrett Barber; and 11
nieces and nephews.
The funeral was conducted by the Revs.
David Turner and Mike Chambers at 11 a.m.
Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church.
Burial was in Bethlehem Baptist Church
cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Macedonia
Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.
Cleveland Funeral Services, Shelby, was in
charge of arrangements.
ERNEST DIXON
GROVER - Ernest James Dixon Jr. 53, 245
Mallard Drive, died June 7, 2003 at Kindred
Hospital in Greensboro.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the
son of the late Ernest James Dixon Sr. and
Beatrice Jackson Dixon. He was a member
of Charity Baptist Church in Fallston.
He is survived by his wife, Angel Roof
Dixon of Earl; sons Marty Dixon, Paul
Dixon and James Dixon of Earl and James
Dixon of Columbia, SC; daughters Wanda
Dixon and Frances Dixon of Earl and Penny
Dixon of Columbia, SC; brothers Kenneth
Dixon of Patterson Springs and Gene Dixon
and Mike Dixon of Grover; sisters Mildred
Gregory of Grover and Elevlyn Dover of
Kings Mountain; and one grandchild.
A graveside service was conducted by the
Rev. Charles Cook at 2 p.m. Tuesday at
Charity Baptist Church cemetery, Fallston.
Harris Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
JOYCE FRANKS
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Joyce Atkins
+ + Franks, 70, 1715 Shelby Road, died June 8,
2003 at Hospice of Wendover, Shelby.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the
daughter of the late Clarence Dewey
“Boots” Atkins and the late Lila Elizabeth
Allison Atkins Gladden. She was also pre-
ceded in death by her step father, Earl Odell
Gladden; husband Lalon Lee Franks; sisters
Mary Alice Atkins and Frances Mae Atkins;
and step-brother Gerald Gladden.
She was owner operator of James
Superette of Bessemer City and was a mem-
ber of House of Worship, Bessemer City.
She is survived by her sons, Ronnie
Franks and wife Rita and Terry Franks and
wife Kimberly, all of Kings Mountain; sister,
Betty Lou Howell of Kings Mountain; step-
sister, Betty Gladden Roper of Kings
Mountain; and two grandchildren, Melissa
Ashlyn Franks and William Lalon Franks.
The funeral was conducted by the Rev.
Ron Caulder at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ollie
Harris Memorial Chapel. Burial was in
Mountain Rest Cemetery.

TOM HOLLAND
BOILING SPRINGS - Thomas Boyce
“Tom” Holland, 67, 150 Woodhill Drive,
died Saturday at Cleveland Regional
Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the
son of the late Boyce Holland and Era
Mode. He was also predeceased by his
brothers Glenn and Hal Holland.
He was an employee of CSX Railroad for
35 years and retired as a foreman in the
engineering department.
He was a member of Boiling Springs
Baptist Church where he was a member of
the T. Max Linnens Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Banning
Holland of Boiling springs; sons and his
wife, William “Bill” Holland and Elaine of
Bostic; granddaughters April Holland of
Crossville, TN and Shanna Beam of Shelby; |
grandsons, T.J. Holland of Bostic and David
S. Beam II of Shelby; sister and her husband,
Carolyn and George Adams of Shelby; sis-
ters-in-law, Dorthy Holland of Shelby,
Charcie Holland of Kings Mountain, and
Judy Lewis of Shelby; sister-in-law, Wilbur
Banning and Donna of Boiling Springs; and
special friend, Jeanette Ross.
The funeral was conducted at graveside
by Dr. Carroll Page at 11 a.m. Tuesday at
Cleveland Memorial Park.

HELEN HUNTSINGER
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Helen Nancy
Gregory Huntsinger, 78, 2454 County Line
Road, died June 5, 2003 at Gaston Memorial
Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, she was the
daughter of the late Ross Gregory Sr. and
Barbara Martin Gregory. She was also pre-
ceded in death by her husband of 55 years,
William Collet Huntsinger; and a son, Ross
Eugene “Gene” Huntsinger.
She was a member of East Gold Street
Wesleyan Church. She was a homemaker for
many years and later worked with Bill and
Joyce Cashion at Falls Superette.
She is survived by her sons, Rick
Huntsinger of the home and Arnold
Huntsinger and wife Phylis of Wilmington;
daughter, Geraldine Beam and husband
Jerry of Kings Mountain; daughter-in-law,
Jan Huntsinger of Kings Mountain; former
daughter-in-law, Willa Sexton of Gastonia;
brothers, Floyd Gregory and Ross Gregory
Jr. of Gastonia; grandchildren, David, Mark,
Chad, Todd, Emily and William Huntsinger
and Rodney and Rhonda Beam; and great-
grandchildren, Allan, Alexander, Harrison
and Jesse Beam.
A graveside service was conducted by the
Revs. Eddie Gray and Leroy Cox at 2 p.m.
Sunday at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
