KMHS class of 1948 holds 55th year reunion The Kings Mountain High School Class of 1948 held its 55th year reunion May 31 at Boyce Memorial ARP Church fellowship hall. Bob Patterson welcomed the 23 class members and their spouses. He fol- lowed the welcome with an invocation. Keith Falls of Linwood Restaurant pro- vided a buffet dinner. Frances Sarvis and Chloe Sparks lit candles in memory of deceased class members Jo Ann Blalock Crawford, Daniel Britt, Joyce Cloninger, Alda Jean Davis Jackson, Colleen Falls Crawford, James Dover, Kermit Huffstetler, Blair Moss, J.D. Rhea, Juanita Shytle, Barbara Simmons Harmon, Iva Jean Williamson and Jean Webb Neill. Oren Fulton and Sonny Moss sang the school song. Frances Sarvis read letters of regret from class members who were not in attendance. Bud Medlin introduced Sonny Moss who spoke on “Oldies but Goodies.” The talk was about things invented after graduation including the televi- sion, touchtone phone, VCR and jet plane. Other class members comment- ed on their school memories. Committee members were re-elected to prepare for the 2005 reunion. Bittersweet Brice, Bryant win scholarships Kings Mountain Hospital Auxiliary recently awarded $2,000 scholarships to Angela Ilia Brice and Cathy Lorraine Bryant. Both students plan to go into the health care field. The awards were made possible through donations made to the Hospital Auxiliary “Tree of Love” project and the sale of auxiliary cook books. This is the sixth year the auxiliary has given the schol- arships. Brice is the daughter of Marc and Eveline Brice. Bryant is the daughter of Melvin and Judy Bryant. The scholarships will be given in $500 increments as the students continue to qual- ify. Brice has been active in many high school clubs and activities. She is a member of National Honor Society and Beta club and was secretary of the Science Club and senior class treasurer of SPO. She was a member of Renaissance, Key, Bible and Spanish clubs. She was a member of the Symphonic Chorale and attended Mars Hill Choral Clinic. She was also a girl State Representation. Last year she attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine in Atlanta, GA. She was a mem- ber of the YMCa Black Achievers Program her junior and senior years. She has been active in CHAMP tutoring and served as a governor's page. She vol- unteers at a nursing home, Washington Irvin Branch Library, Education Career Planning and Kings Mountain YMCA. She plans to attend UNC at Chapel Hill and major in Biology and Spanish with a concentration in political sci- ence. Her career goal is to specialize in pediatric immunolo- ANGELA BRICE CATHY BRYANT y- Bryant has attended Gaston College for two years. She has been accepted in the nursing program at Gaston College beginning in August. She has been working week- ends at Kings Mountain Hospital as a CNA. She is active in her church.
