Page 2B The Kings Mountain Herald My Neisler obtains Eagle Scout rank Garrett Neisler has received the Boy Scouts of America’s highest honor, the rank of Eagle Scout. To achieve the Eagle Scout rank, a Boy Scout must fulfill require- # ments in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills. Neisler has been a mem- ber of Boy Scot Troop 92 at First Baptist Church since 1996, and advanced through all of the ranks on the trail to Eagle Scout. His Eagle serv- ice project was the construc- tion of a performing arts stage at the Kings Mountain Walking Track. Neisler’s Eagle ceremony took place Sunday, June 22 at First Presbyterian Church where he is an active mem- ber. Neisler is a 2003 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and will attend High Point University to study Computer Science. He is the son of Jan and Scott Neisler and has a sister, Wendy, who is a senior at Elon University. Grandparents are Helen Cetan of Sarasota, FL and Charles and Mary Neisler of Kings Mountain. “I want to sincerely thank the Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters of Troop 92 for their help and support and for their dedica- tion to the Boy Scouts of American and the Scouts in Troop 92,” Neisler said. NEISLER GOP won’t meet again until August The Cleveland County Republican Party will not meet in July. It’s next meet- ing is set for August 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Jackson's Cafeteria in Shelby. Guest speaker will be Hal Eberle, former Assistant Secretary to the Treasury under presidents Nixon and Ford. The next grassroots train- ing conference for Republican officers, precinct chairs and Republican activists will be held July 12 in the Percy Sears Auditorium at Guilford Technical Community College. Registration begins at 8:30 and the conference at 9. Topics to be covered include the 72 hour plan, county and precinct organi- zation, candidate recruit- ment, political plans for counties, fund raising and media relations /communi- cation. A similar conference will be held July 19 at the Fretwell Building, Room 100, at UNCC. Consort to perform at KM Military Park The Miller-Rowe Consort will be in concert at Kings Mountain National Military Park visitor center auditori- um Saturday, July 5 at 7:30 Jam. The Miller-Rowe Consort combines the hammer dul- cimer and classical guitar into an unmistakable sound with rich texture. The per- formance will feature Appalachian, Celtic, Early American and traditional music which is most often associated with these instru- ments. They will also per- form original selections that contain folk, classical and jazz elements. The Consort consists of David Rowe, pastor of Blacksburg ARP Church on the hammer dulcimer, and Michael Miller on classical guitar. Miller teaches classi- cal guitar at Presbyterian College. Programs Saturday at Crowders park Two programs are sched- uled for Saturday, July 5 at Crowders Mountain State Park near Kings Mountain. “Ranger on the Ridge” will be held during the after- noon. Meet a ranger at the - Crowders Mountain over- look at the top of the Backside Trail. He will answer questions while par- ticipants look at the sur- rounding countryside through a spotting scope. The first three persons to stump the ranger with park related questions will win a prize. “Discover the Beaver” is slated for 2 p.m. Meet at the lake parking lot. Participants will learn interesting facts about beavers, and see an active beaver lodge. The program is for all ages but will be cancelled if it rains. July 12 programs at Crowders Park Two programs are sched- uled for Saturday, July 12 at Crowders Mountain State Park near Kings Mountain. A discovery hike is set for 10:30 a.m. for children of all ages. Participants will dis- cover a wide variety of natu- ral features in the park. Meet at the visitor center for a hike to the lake. “Animals of Crowders Mountain State Park” will be presented at 2 p.m. Participants will learn about all the different animals that live in the park. A ranger will be on hand to answer questions and provide infor- mation. Meet at the visitor center. For more information call the park at 853-5375. Ranger on Ridge at Crowders Mtn. “Ranger on the Ridge” will be presented during the morning hours Saturday, July 19 at Crowders Mountain State Park near Kings Mountain. Participants will meet with a ranger at the Crowders Mountain overlook at the top of Backside Trail. They will have an opportunity to ask questions about the park, and the first three per- sons who stump the ranger on a park related question will win a prize. The program is subject to weather and staff limita- . tions. For more information call the park at 853-5375. Weekend programs at Crowders Park Programs are scheduled for July 26 and 27 at Crowders Mountain State Park near Kings Mountain. On Saturday, July 26 at 1:30 p.m. there will be a pro- gram on “Native Reptiles of Crowders Mountain.” Participants will learn about snakes, lizards and turtles and the important roles they play in the natural world. There will be live specimens available for introductions in a “hands-on fashion.” Meet at the visitor center. A “Little Mountain Hike” will be held at 1:30 on Sunday, July 27. Hikers will take a tour of Little Mountain. The area does not have established hiking trails, so participants should wear good hiking shoes and appropriate clothing. Discussions will focus on the natural features and geology of the area. Breakfast Specials! Meet at the Linwood Road access parking lot. KM'’s Tyler Maxey attends Boys State Tyler Maxey, son of Jimmy and Charlene Maxey, repre- sented Kings 1 Mountain High School at the American Legion Tar Heels Boys State at Catawba College in Salisbury. Boys State is sponsored by The American Legion, Department of North Carolina. It is an intense workshop concentration on North Carolina state govern- ment and politics. While there, Maxey was | elected to the office of Ruffin County Commissioner. That gave him an opportunity to be involved in the practice of government at the city, county and state level. Bible School set at First Baptist MAXEY Vacation Bible School will be held July 7-11 from 9 a.m.-12 noon at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. Their mother is Angela Mullinax of Kings Mountain. They have a brother, Calem Ross. Grandmother is Diane Parker and great-grand- mother is Shirley Mullinax, both of Kings Mountain.
