The Wildcats played nine games from Sunday through Wednesday and visited the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Wildcats had a strong offensive team. Brantley Blalock led the attack with five home runs and a .625 batting average. Jeffry Howell had four home runs and a .458 average. Justin Heinback had one home run and a .448 average. Rai Robinson had two home runs and a .407 average. Tyler Ross had a .346 average, Jared Spicer hit .333, and Caleb Henderson had two home runs, including a grand slam, and a .318 average. Kyle Bell had a home run and a .263 average. The Wildcats competed with 63 teams from all over the U.S. A set schedule was played and then each team was ranked and placed into a sin- gle elimination bracket for Wednesday and Thursday. Wildcats play in Cooperstown into the second round of the bracket play before being defeated in a close game by Orland Park Magic from Illinois. Key defensive plays in the first round from Mitchell Hinson, Hogan Sellers and Jamie York allowed the wildcats to advance to the second round. The week concluded on Thursday night with each player receiving a Cooperstown Dreams Park ring and induction into the Youth Baseball Hall of Fame. All-Stars win State Championship The Gastonia All-Stars won the North Carolina Tarheel State Championship last week in Raleigh. The all-Stars finished 4-1 in the tour- nament, which was delayed several times due to severe weather . In game one, Gastonia defeated West Raleigh 7-2. Leading hitters were Caleb Henderson with 2-for-3, Dillon White with 2-for-3, and Tyler Ross with a home run. Jeffry Howell and Hunter Yarborough combined to pitch a three- hitter and strike out 10. In game two, Gastonia defeated Southern Johnston County 4-2. Leading hitters were Rai Robinson with 2-for-3 and a home run. In the third game, Gastonia defeated Williamston 9-3. Rai Robinson and Dillon White each went 3-for-3, Jeffry Howell was 3-for-4, and Brantley Blalock 2-for-3. Robinson had two home runs which accounted for six runs batted in. Hunter Yarborough, Jeffry Howell, Chris Waugh and Brantley Blalock combined to pitch a five-hitter'and strike out nine. In game four, Gastonia lost a close battle to Rocky Mount 9-8. Tryon defeated Reidsville 6-2, Pleasure Island 11-1, Whiteville 14-7, Sardis 5-4 and District 3 Champion East Lincoln 5-3 to reach the championship best of three series. In the championship series, Tryon defeated Hope Mills 3-0 before losing 9-5 and 10-7. Tryon had qualified for the State by finishing second to East Lincoln in the district tournament.
