A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late James M. and Velma West Staley. Fowler, 69, 406 Stoney Point Road, died August 25, 2003 at his home. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Flay and Julia McSwain Fowler. He was also preceded in death by his son Derick Fowler, daughter Debbie Fowler, and brother Charles Fowler. He was retired from Dover Mill and was a member of Family Worship Center Church of God. He is survived by his wife, Janie Elizabeth Putnam Fowler of the home; sons, Roger Fowler and wife Linda of Fallston, and Dale Fowler; step daughter, Peggy B. Whetstine of Kings Mountain; stepson and wife, Donald William and Betty Faye Biggerstaff of Shelby; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Joseph and Fannie Pritchard Willis and wife of the late Ben Palmer “Doc” Wilson. She was also predeceased by her son Bobby Joe Wilson, brothers J.J. Willis, Boyd Willis and Lloyd Willis, and sisters Blanche Warlick and Bertha Gilreath. She was a homemaker. He was a member of Westview Baptist Church where he served as a dea- con. He was past master of Clemmons Masonic Lodge 755 and past patron of Clemmons Eastern Star Chapter 373. He retired from Pilot Freight Line. He was a veter- an of the U.S Navy with service from 1946-1948. He is survived by his daughters, Janice Beam and husband Bill of Lexington, Martha Welborn and hus- band Reich of Durham, Sue Floyd and husband Ron of Lake Norman, and Karen Griffith and husband Jack of Roanoke, Va; six grandchil- dren; one great-grandchild; sisters Grace Talbert and Evelyn Hill, both of Kings Mountain; and brother Hal Allen of Cramerton. A native of Gaston County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Henry O. Childress and Mary Rhyne Childress and ‘wife of the late James Otis McDaniel. She was retired from Sears after 28 years of service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Gastonia, and was former member of the administra- tive board and choir. She was past Matron of Lorraine Chapter #169. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. James O. McDaniel and wife Suellen of Newton and Dr. David R. Mountain. Joey Wright turns 6! Joey Wright of Kings Mountain will turn 6 years old on Wednesday, August 27. He celebrated his birthday early with a trip to Disney World in July with his family. He had 9 character meals and he had two special meetings with Peter Pan His first meeting was a tour where he and some other children had to help save the park from the witch of Sleeping Beauty where at the end Peter Pan and Wendy helped and he got to ride It's a Small World with him. His second meeting was when Captain Hook ! kidnapped Wendy and Peter Pan picked him out of a line of children to help find her and was awarded the map that they searched for Wendy He also went to Chucky Cheeses and the Nascar Park in Concord this past Saturday. He is the son of James and Joella Wright and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William (Joe) Hamrick of Kings Mountain and Mr. and Mrs. Billy Wright of Shelby. GEORGE BARRETT KINGS MOUNTAIN - George Thomas Barrett, 66, 211 Catherine Street, died August 25, 2003 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Cherokee County, SC, he was the son of the late Marvin and Pauline Sneed Barrett. He was retired from FMC Lithium Corporation in Bessemer City, and was a member of the Interdenominational Holiness Church in Kings Mountain. He is survived by his wife, Ada Mauney Barrett of Kings Mountain; sons, Marvin George Barrett of Kings Mountain and Randy Thomas Barrett and wife Brenda S. of Conway, SC; sister, Bonnie Martin of Grover; and grandchildren, Randy Travis Barrett, Leslie Dawn Scott, and Darren Gilman. A native of Cherokee County, SC, he was the son of the late Grady and Annie Huey Mullinax and husband of the late Sarah Moore Mullinax. He was also pre- ceded in death by a brother and seven sisters. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater and on Christmas Island in WWII, and was retired from Combustion Engineering. He attended oak View Baptist Church and was a member of Otis D. Green American Legion Post 155.
