The Kings Mountain Herald RUEY THRONEBURG CHARLOTTE - Ruey Murray Throneburg, 100, formerly of Kings Mountain, died September 7, 2003 at Asbury Care Center, Aldersgate, Charlotte, after a lengthy illness. A native of Catawba County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Walter and Sudie Lineberger Murray. She was the wife of the late Yates F. Throneburg, whom she married in 1922. She was also preceded in death by her son, James C. Throneburg. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain, for many years and was a resi- dent of the Methodist Home (Aldersgate) of Charlotte for 18 years. She was retired sales clerk for Belks. At age 81, she wrote and had pub- lished a book of pound cake recipes whith has been used by cake lovers around the United States. She is survived by her son, Billy FE. Throneburg and wife Beverly of Salt Lake City, UT; granddaughter Patricia Trathen and husband Woodrow of Boone; grand- son William Throneburg and wife Margaret of Salt Lake City, UT; great-granddaugh- ters’Katie Throneburg of Salt Lake City, UT and Keeli Trathen of Boone; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Janice Combs at 2 p.m. Thursday at - Central United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain. He was a graduate of Bessemer City High School and East Carolina University and was a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was retired from North Carolina Department of Social Services and was recognized - several times for his work with Job Corps, in the area of youth. He was a member of Long Creek Presbyterian Church and served in Korea as a Staff Sergeant with the United States Air Force. She was also pre- ceded in death by brothers Earl Cloninger and Jim Cloninger and sisters Hazel - Cloninger, Joyce Haynes and Dorothy Goforth. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was retired from Margrace Mills, Kings Mountain. HAZEL LEE GILL KINGS MOUNTAIN - Hazel Lee Gill, 81, 102 Cameron Drive, died September 4, 2003 at his home. A native of York County, SC, he was the son of the late Joshua and Theodosia Banks Gill. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Turner Gill; brothers i Marcellus Gill, Wilson Gill and Bennie Gill; and sisters Johnnie Mae Gill and Alice Caldwell. He started Hazel Lee Gill Trucking in 1948. In 1954 he and his brother-in-law, Raleigh Brown, started Gill and Brown Funeral Home, and in 1969 he founded J.W. Gill & Sons Funeral Home, naming the business in honor of his father. He was an avid gardener and community leader, and was the first African American in Cleveland County to broadcast his own radio show over Kings Mountain Station WKMT. He was a member of Moses Masonic Lodge #4. He is survived by his sons, Donnell Gill and wife Nevessa of Kings Mountain, and Ronnell Gill of Laurel, MD; brother Richard Gill and wife Betty of Gastonia; sisters Bobby Hemphill and Ruby Mungo of Charlotte, Viola Scott and husband Tillman, Juanita Smith, LaEunice Gill and Naomi Parker of Great Neck, NY; brother-in-law Victor Caldwell of Charlotte; grandchildren Danielle and Daniel Gill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
