KM Patriots roll 42-6 over Pumpkin Center Kings Mountain rolled to a 36-0 halftime lead and went on to defeat Pumpkin Center 42-6 in a Tri-County Middle School Conference football game Wednesday at John Gamble Stadium. The Patriots, 4-1, were scheduled to host West Lincoln yesterday. They host county rival Burns in their final game next Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Patriots’ only loss of the year, a 16-6 setback to Lincolnton in the second game, will keep them out of the conference champi- onship game. Lincolnton, which was 6-0 going into their final game yesterday against Pumpkin Center, will represent Division One regardless of the outcome because of the head-to-head win over Kings Mountain. Division One is still too close to call but its represen- tative will be either Chase, Shelby or Crest “We're real pleased with our play,” said KM Coach Monty Deaton. “Right now what we're shooting for us to win out against the Cleveland County teams. We've already beaten Crest and Shelby and look to end the season by beating Burns.” Kings Mountain clicked on all cylinders last week against Pumpkin Center. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Lincolnton but was moved to KM at the last minute because of a scheduling con- flict. The Patriot defense held the visitors without a first down in the first half. Kings Mountain used the second half to get all of its players in the game. Kings Mountain got on the board quickly. On the first play from scrimmage, Pumpkin Center attempted a slant pass. KM tight end Cedric Roberts made a leap- ing interception and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown. Roberts finished the game with two carries for 50 yards, three receptions for The GARY STEWART / HERALD 63 yards, and three touch- downs.
