Page 2B The Kings Mountain Herald Foard knocks Mounties out of volleyball playoffs | Kings Mountain High's volleyball team saw a very successful season come to an end Saturday night at Donald L. Parker Gymnasium as old nemesis Fred T. Foard came from behind to post a 19-25, 25- 16, 25-16, 25-22 victory in the third round of the State 3A Tournament. The victory moved the Lady Tigers into the Western Regionals championship game last night against Mooresville, a 3-0 winner over Weddington. The win- ner of that match will advance to the State Championship game against the winner of the East Chapel Hill-Manteo game on Saturday at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh. For the past several years, the winner of the Kings Mountain-Foard game has gone on to win the State Championship. This year’s Foard-KM match-ups were just as com- Kings Mountain players are shown in action in Thursday's State petitive as those in the past, with Foard winning three of the four matches. Kings Mountain defeated Foard in their first match early in the season but Foard came back to win the final regular sea- son game against the Mountaineers to force a tie for the Southwestern Foothills Conference cham- pionship. In a special playoff match to decide the top seed for the playoffs, Foard won again but later had to forfeit the match because of an ineligible player. That gave KM the top seed in the play- offs and the right to play all of their Western playoff games at home The Mountaineers finished off South Point and T.C. Roberson in three straight games in the first two rounds, before running into Foard again in the third round. After losing the first game, the Tigers came roaring back to dominate the next two games, and broke a 22-all tie with three straight points to win the deciding fourth game. Despite the loss, Kings Mountain finished 25-5 overall. Alex Dawson had a spec- tacular final game along the nets, registering 21 kills. She also contributed 20 digs and was 10-for-11 serving with three ace serves. Setter Blair Heffner also had a big night with 33 assists and 12-for-12 serving. She had three kills and 12 digs. Jackie Jarvis was perfect on nine serves and had 12 digs. Ashley McDaniel was 12-for-13 serving and had eight digs. Lauren Horne ‘was 20-for-21 serving and had eight digs, and Ashton Teague was perfect on 12 serves and had six kills and 10 digs. Kala Buchanan had five kills and four digs. The Mountaineers reached ry over T.C. Roberson at Donald L. Parker Gymnasium. A 1 have been a resident of Kings Mountain all of my life, I was raised in Kings Mountain o o + where the average person had to struggle to survive, so I know first hand about the needs and concerns of the middle class and senior citizens of Kings Mountain, I don’t have money to buy my way into office, so I am depending on the working people, the people who struggle to make ends meet, to get out and vote for a change. The present mayor and council have ignored the working man and woman, spending more on personal projects for the wealthy, than any other mayor in the history of Kings Mountain. Arts, Little Theater, YMCA, Cutting water rates in half for the Country Club, while increasing rates for us, annexing people's property, knowing they haven't got the money to do what they promise the people, They don’t care about the people, they just want the tax; so they will have more to blow on things we don’t need. I don’t have a college degree like the present mayor, but I do have a lot of knowledge about the average person and their needs, I believe our top priority is to get new industry, large and small, to open here in Kings Mountain, Not drawing pictures on the side of buildings. We need large and small businesses to come to Kings Mountain so that everybody who wants work, and needs work will have a job, When I am elected your mayor, I will meet with the city manager, and go over the budget because I know there is a lot of fat that can be cut out; saving Kings Mountain thousands of dollars a year. For instance, the Public Relations Department, should and could be run by the Mayor’s Office. That alone would save Kings Mountain over $106,000 a year! Even a man with a college degree should know, when the economy is bad you have to make a lot of changes, When I am elected your mayor, I will listen to all the people of Kings Mountain; not just the affluent, I will be a mayor for all of K.M, not just the wealthy. I don't have big companies giving me money for my election, therefore I won't owe them any favors, All I have is my word, if you want a better Kings Mountain to live in and raise your family, and be treated the way you deserve to be treated; then I am your man. We all should support our Police Department in an effort to curb crime, and rid Kings Mountain of drugs. I need your help on November 4th, so we can start on new ideas to improve our home, Kings Mountain, Thanks; Pee Wee Paid for by the Candidate GARY STEWART / HERALD 3A volleyball playoff victo- the Sectional championship contest by defeating T.C.
