A native of Cleveland County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Rev. Robert F. and Venia Mae Horton Kilgore. She was also pre- ceded in death by her hus- band, Rev. Pledger Evans; son Eddie Evans; and broth- er Thomas Kilgore. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Earl, where she was a member of the Usher Board for over 40 years, the Missionary Department and the Kilgore Choir. She was a retired textile worker and member of Zoar Baptist Church. A native of Cleveland County, she was the wife of the late Wade cad Ford and daughter of the late Hilliard and Susan Garver Wood. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Susie Ford, grand- son Marty Ivester, sister Emma Greason and brothers Charles, Leroy and Rufus Wood. She was a member of Christian Freedom Baptist Church, and had previously been a member of Second Baptist Church for over 40 years. Daewoos DICK HUNNICUTT KINGS MOUNTAIN - Harold Richard “Dick” Hunnicutt Jr., died October 23, 2003 in Hatteras, NC: Dick Hunnicutt was born in Charlotte, NC on September 1, 1938. He was the son of H.R. Hunnicutt Sr. and Margaret Neisler Hunnicutt. He grew up in Kings Mountain, NC where he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, an: Eagle Scout, and a graduate of Kings Mountain High School. He attended Davidson College and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from Belmont Abbey College in 1961 with a B.A. in Business : Administration. He also attended N.C. State University where he was a member of Sigma Tau Sigma Honorary Fraternity and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Textile Technology in 1963. After graduation, he worked at Parkdale Mills, Inc. in Gastonia for five years. In 1967, he co-found- ed Kings Mill, Inc. in Kings Mountain, NC where he served as Vice-President. In 1973, Kings Mill was merged into Tultex Corporation. He became President of the Tultex Yarn Group in 1976 and was elected Senior Vice- President of Tultex Corporation in 1976. He was named President and Chief Operating Officer of Tultex in 1984 and was elected Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in December, 1988. He retired from Tultex on January 1, 1991 in order to pursue pri- vate interests but remained a member of the Board of Directors. He was a Past President of the American Yarn Spinners Association, a Past Chairman of the National Knitwear Manufacturers Association, a Past President of the North Cafolina Textile Foundation, and Commodore of the Hatteras Marlin Club. i He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Textile Manufacturers Institute, the American Yarn Spinners Association, the N.C. Textile Foundation, the N.C. Textile Manufacturers Association, the National Knitwear Manufacturers Association, the National Cotton Council, the Board of Visitors of N.C. State University, the Hatteras Marlin Club, the Gaston Country Club, the Community Foundation of Gaston County and the Gastonia Board of BB&T. He was a member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia and the Hatteras Marlin Club. He was a member of the Gaston Country Club for 30 years. Fall backpacking at KM State Park A fall backpacking event is set for November 8-9 at Kings Mountain State Park. Participants will enjoy a "moderately strenuous hike ~ on the trails of Kings Mountain State and National parks. The hike will include 16 miles with inclines and fall scenery. Take water for the first day and food for four meals and camping gear. The hike is designed for ages 10 through adult. An adult must accompany ages 10-17. The fee is $15 per partici- pant. Register by November 3. Meet at the campground parking lot by 10 a.m. on Saturday. The event ends at 3 p.m. Sunday. For more information call (803) 222-3209. Christmas on Farm at KM State Park Christmas on the Farm will be held Saturday, Dec. 13 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Living History Farm at Kings Mountain State Park. The program is free with park admission. No registra- tion is required. The even twill include an afternoon of music, story telling, blacksmithing and customs of the rural upcoun- try farmers. Their Christmas costumes were very different from today. They were very simple and sometimes they didn’t even celebrate the holiday. Refreshments will be served.
