Lynn Stroupe, 78, 1511
Concord Road, formerly of
Kings Mountain, died
Sunday, November 23, 2003
at Upstate Carolina Medical
Center.
A native of Cleveland
County, she was the daugh-
ter of the late Charles C.
“Pete” and Florence Ada
Conner Lynn and wife of the
late George Melvin Stroupe.
‘She was also preceded in
death by her brother, Felmur
Lynn, and sister Lillian
Mitchem. She was a home-
maker and member of East
Gaffney Baptist Church.
She is survived by her
daughters, Diane Horton
and husband Jack of
Gaffney, and Gina Sain and
husband Arlin “Butch” of
Catawba, NC; brother Bill
Lynn of Kings Mountain;
sister Eva Barrett of Kings
Mountain; and granddaugh-
ter Adrienene Elyse Sain.
A graveside service will be
held at 11 a.m. Wednesday
at Mountain Rest Cemetery,
Kings Mountain, with the
Rev. Ron Jackson officiating.
The family has requested
friends to come by at their
convenience at the home of
Jack and Diane Horton, 1511
Concord Road, Gaffney, SC.

“Tom” Kendrick, 101, 113
Duffy Dr., died November
19, 2003 at his home.
Born May 20, 1902, he was
the ninth child of the late
Lawson and Ponola Camp
Kendrick and was the last
survivor of the family. He
was a retired farmer and
member of Pleasant Hill
Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents
and siblings, he was preced-
ed in death by his wife,
Pearl Moore Kendrick; and a
five-year-old son, Thomas
Lawson Kendrick.
He is survived by his son,
Roger Kendrick and wife
Nell; daughters Jean
Reynolds and husband John,
Donnis Holmes, Marilyn
Ferree, Norman Poston and
husband Don, all of Shelby,
and Nancy Clary of Cary;
grandchildren Karen Bringle
and husband Ronald of

A native of Laurens, SC,
she was the daughter of the
late Charles Mack Biddix
and Jena Gilliland Biddix.
She was also preceded in
death by her daughter Eva
Bridges.
She was a Pentecostal, and
was retired from the textile
industry.
She is survived by her

Eugene Houser of Forest
City; daughter Wanda Sue

Ronald Henry of Kings

grandchildren.
The funeral was conduct-
ed by the Rev. Ron Hawkins
at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ollie
Harris Memorial Chapel.
Burial was in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.

Queen Huffstickler.

He is survived by his
brother, Michael Huffstickler,
of Grover, and sister Rita
Ann Bonnifil of Bedford, TX.

a.m. Tuesday at Ollie Harris
Memorial Chapel. Burial
was in Mountain Rest
Cemetery.

Pheng Himpaphanh, 85, 110
Tera Terrace, died
November 20, 2003 at Kings
Mountain Hospital.
He was a native of
Luangprabang, Laos. He
was preceded in death by
his wife, Nang
Himpaphanh.
He was a member of the
Laos American Association,
Kings Mountain, and a for-
mer member of the Laos
military and a governmental
official working for the King
of Laos.
He is survived by his sons,
Bay Himpaphanh and Tim
Himpaphanh, both of Kings
Mountain; daughters
Bouavanh “Bo” “Juanita”
Sinnorai, Bonaphanh
SomQulay, and Somchanh
Sonvichit, all of Kings
Mountain; and nine grand-
children.
The funeral will be con-
ducted at 8 a.m. Saturday,
Nov. 29 at Lao Culture
Center of North Carolina in
_ Wilmington.

NASHVILLE, TN. - Don
Gibson, 75, died November
17,2003 at Baptist Hospital.
A native of Cleveland
County, he was the son of
the late Solon and Mary
Magdalene Gamble Gibson.
He wa a singer, composer,
and musician and a member
of the Country Music Hall of
Fame. He was a Mason and
attended the Baptist church
in Shelby.
He began his career with
Mid-Day Merry Go-round at
Tennessee Barn Dance
shows in 1951.
He was a recording artist
for RCA Records from 1958-
1970 and appeared with
Station WSM Grand Ole
Opry from 1958-2003.
He was recipient of
numerous citations and
achievement awards includ-
ing Best Country Record
awards, Automatic Music
Industry Ambassador, and
Cash Box award.
He wrote numerous coun-
try hits, including “Oh
Lonesome Me,” “Sweet
Dreams,” I” Can't Stop
Loving You,” “Blue, Blue,
Day,” “I'd Be a Legend in
My Time,” “Just One Time,”
and “Woman, Sensuous
Woman.”
He was elected to the
Country Music Songwriters
Hall of Fame in 1973, the
Ireland Hall of Fame in 1984,
and the CMA Hall of Fame
in 2001.
He is survived by his wife
of 36 years, Barbara
“Bobbie” Patterson Gibson
of Nashville; mother-in-law
Sybil Sisk Patterson of
Shelby; sister-in-law Tamela
P. Dodson of Wilmington;
brothers-in-law, Ronald
Patterson of Shelby and
Lynn Dodson of
