KM School Board
to meet Monday
Kings Mountain District
Schools Board of Education
has changed its scheduled
January 12 meeting to
January 5 at 7 p.m. at the
Central office, 105 East
Ridge Street.
The meeting is open to the
public.
One agenda item is an
update on the proposed
merger of the Kings
Mountain, Shelby and
Cleveland County school
systems. The Department of
Justice is expected to make a
decision on the merger by
Monday, January 12. If the
DOJ clears the merger,
KMDS can appeal to the
U.S. District Court in
Washington, DC but school
officials and their lawyers
have not indicated if they
would do that.
If the DOJ clears the merg-
er and Kings Mountain does
not take the matter to the
U.S. District Court, the
merger will go into effect
and KMDS and Shelby City
Schools will cease to exist
and become a part of
Cleveland County Schools.
Also on the agenda is a
report from John Goforth,
Assistant Superintendent for
Instruction and Curriculum,
and discussions of the
ROTC program, energy edu-
cation, student transfers,
personnel, and substitute
teacher additions.
A closed session is sched-
uled at the end of the meet-
ing.
