PLAYOFFS
From 6A
face.a conference foe in each
of their playoff games:
“Last year we were in sep-
arate brackets, but this year
the conference teams are in
the same bracket,”
McDowell said. “That's
going to be tough. Just think
about it, you;re playing
some of the same teams in
the tournament that you
may have beaten three or
four times in the regular sea-
son. The way the brackets
are set up only one team
from our conference can
quality for the Regionals.
Last year we didn’t face a
team from our conference in
the playoffs.”
Kings Mountain took a 15-
9 overall record into last
night's game. Five of their
losses came to three of the
top ten ranked 4A teams in
the state - one game to
Freedom and two each to
Myers Park and West
Charlotte.
McDowell’s philosophy of
playing tough non-confer-
ence opponents to prepare
for a run at the conference
championship paid off as
the Mounties followed up a
4-8 non-conference record
with an 11-1 conference
‘mark and their third straight
SWFH championship.
