Foard compete in the 1600 meter run in Thursday’s track meet at Gamble Stadium. Raquel Welsh (center of photo) won the event for the Kings Mountain girls. Mountaineer track teams sweep 3-team Kings Mountain High's track teams swept a three- team meet with Burns and Fred T. Foard Thursday at John Gamble Stadium. The Mountaineers com- piled 79 points to 72.5 for Foard and 22.5 for Burns. The KM girls scored 85.5 points to 43 for Foard and 30.5 for Burns. Martrice Love led the Mountaineers with first "place finishes in the 100 meter dash (11.37 seconds) and the 200 meter run (24.97). He also ran a leg on the winning 4 x 100 relay tear along with Darik Marable, Javon Potts and Antwan Ross. . Marcus Jimson was also a 300 meter intermediate hur- dles in 46.09 seconds and the 110 high hurdles in 16.17. Thomas Reid won the 800 meters in 2:23. Reid, Jon Paul Wallace, Lucas Lankford and Baxter McGregor won the 4 x 800 meter relay in 50.43. George Mayes, Darik Marable, Javon Potts and Antwan Ross won the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1:38.9. New players are Michael Davis, Fletcher Webster, Josh Vassey, Tyler Bumgardner, Charles Christenbury, Davis Phanthalack, Ariel Martin, and Tony Davis. Managers are Megan Burns and Heather Barrett. Middle School beats Shelby 4-2 Kings Mountain Middle School's baseball team edged Shelby 4-2 in a Tri-County Conference non-division game Monday. Kings Mountain grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning, and iced the win with two runs in the seventh. Jeffry Howell pitched six innings to get the win. He scat- tered five hits and stuck out nine. Chris Williamson pitched the last inning and struck out two. Justin Heinbach and Tyler Ross led the hitting with two hits each. Howell, Brantley Blalock, Joe Chambers and Brent Hunt had one hit each. Kings Mountain did not commit an error. Golfers third in non-league meet Kings Mountain High's golfers lost to a pair of Gastonia teams in a non-conference meet Wednesday at Woodbridge. Ashbrook won the event with a 301, followed by Forestview 309 and Kings Mountain 342. Ashbrook’s Jacob Davis was medalist with an even par 72. Kings Mountain was led by Josh Etters with a 78. Russ Putnam and Alex Dahl shot 84s, and Reid Smith shot 96. Other Ashbrook scores were Justin Spargo 74, Corey Ford 77 and Derrick Maulman 78. Pat Morris led Forestview with a 76, followed by Patrick Patton and Joe Patton with 77s, and Michael Stiles at 79. Kings Mountain plays at Burns next Monday. Softball team nips St. Stephens Kings Mountain High's women’s softball team edged St. Stephens 6-5 in their first Southwestern Foothills Conference game Friday at Lancaster Field. The Mountaineers (3-0) travel to R-S Central Friday. Varsity action begins at 4 p.m., followed by the JVs. Morgan Childers pitched her second straight complete game victory, striking out 11. Her teammates backed her with a 10-hit attack, led by Brittney Thornburg with 3-for-3, one RBI and two runs scored. Childers aided her own cause with 2-for-3, including a double and two RBI. Brooke Blackburn was 2-for-3 and scored a run. Amber Milwood was 1-for-2 with two RBI, Kristyn Funderburke was 1-for-3 with one RBI, and LaRonda McClain was 1-for-4 and scored a run. They won a playoff over Junior Ervin and Joyce Edge. Dean Heart and Jim Schrum were third at 77, followed by Jesse Hupko and Eddie Gann at 79. Closest to the pin winners were Judy Ervin, Mike Wellman, Eddie Gann and Jim Schrum. Long drive winners were Jim Schrum and Joyce Edge. Thirty-two players competed in the captain’s choice event. Quack Attack takes bowling lead Greg Evans bowled another 400 series and led his Quack Attack team into first place in mixed duckpin bowling league action Tuesday night at Dilling Heating. Evans’ 197 line and 428 set led the Quackers to a 6-2 win over previous leader Jomaz. The result left Quack Attack with an 18-6 record and two-game lead over Jomaz (16-8). Pernell Byars also had a big night for the winners, rolling a 129 line and 353 set. Mark Abernathy led Jomaz with a 128-362.
