Fifteen members and one CAR member were present. Vice Regent, Betty Potter, called the meet- ing to order and welcomed essay winners and their guests. Margaret Ledford led the Ritual and American’s Creed. Betty Masters ‘led the pledges to the US and North Carolina flags and the group sang “The Star Spangled Banner.” The National Defense report by Robin Meyer encouraged each member to exercise his or her vote on election day. Chasiti Jordan Falls was the seventh grade winner from Kings Mountain Middle School, and Joshua Wayne Vassey was the eighth grade winner from the Saturday, April 24 9-11 a.m. Dixon Tire Service 301 E. Crowders Mountain State Park needs volunteers to work on the Kings Mountain Ridgeline Trail, the trail that will eventually connect Crowders Mountain and Kings Mountain State Park. The volunteer work day is scheduled for April 17 from 8 a.m.-12 noon. Work groups will meet and leave from the visitors center. Wear work clothes and good hiking boots /shoes. An aquatic zoo program will be held Saturday, April 17 at 10 a.m. at Crowders Mountain State Park Participants will learn about insects and other crit- ters that live in the lakes and streams of the area. Knowledge of insects can help one’s luck while fishing and can be used to decide what types of lures and bait to use.
