May 6, 2004 {3h BY ANDIE L. BRYMER Staff Writer The Chat-n-Nibble has been open for two weeks and regulars are already gath- ering in the mornings for hot coffee, fried eggs and grits, according to Julie Yawn, who opened the restaurant with her hus- band Jerry Yawn. After years as an expediter and pur- chaser for a machine shop, Yawn knew she was ready for a change. “I enjoyed that but here you get to meet people all day long,” she said. Commercial kitchens are not entirely foreign to Yawn. Her parents ran a restau- rant for 20 years in the family’s native Kentucky. After she made the decision to become a restaurateur, Yawn searched for a location. A friend who worked in sales noticed the empty building on North Piedmont Avenue. Yawn visited. “I just fell in love with it. It snowballed from there,” she said. Black and white checkered flooring cov- Chat-n- am - " - = mm " : 1 a o 5 [4 [5 for . I've heard so much about Peggy’s Restaurant,” Yawn said. Chat -n- Nibble is open from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Some of the breakfast offerings include eggs, pancakes, grits, bacon and pork loin. Lunch specials like chicken breast and dressing, ham and macaroni, country style steak, meatloaf and vegetables change daily. Cheeseburgers, clubs, smoked sausage, grilled chicken, fish sandwiches, chef’s salad and homemade desserts make up part of the lunch menu. For more information, call 704-734-0100.
