Career-Technical Education classes at Kings Mountain High School were recently selected to participate in a job shadowing program. The student participants were Brandon Anthony, Amanda Arrowood, Stephen Bolt, Josh Bryant, Sara Caulder, Justin Detter, Johnathan Frady, Kara Fujita, Matt Grigg, Tim Holmes, Nicole Hoskins, Tina Sprouse, Sadler Stowe, Carrie Thammavongsa, ~ Justin Weaver, and Dustin Weaver. The students were recommended for the program by their high school career- technical education teachers. Rd Job shadowing is considered an extension of the school day for the stu- dent and is considered to be a work- place learning opportunity. While at the workplace, the student follows safety and health rules and is able to observe workplace activities and ask relevant questions. Business sponsors share an interest in helping youth learn more about career opportunities and provide them with realistic, up-to-date, and practical information about their career area. Students were placed with local busi- ness people for the morning to observe their daily routines and to explore and learn more about careers or occupa- tions directly related to their CTE class or pathway for high school graduation. Students were given the opportunity to select careers they were interested in and careers they considered pursuing The program was coordinated by Mrs. Nancye Hager, Career Development Coordinator at KMHS. Burris’ name will appear in the Achievement Academy’ s yearbook which is pub- lished national- ly. Burris is the son of Kenneth Burris and Spring Young of Kings Mountain. His grandparents are Gloria Burris, James Burris Jr. and Helen and Cornelius Young, all of Kings Mountain. Eighty-nine students in second, third and fourth grades earned over 100 points and enjoyed bowling at AMF Shelby Lanes. Seventeen students earned more than 200 points and were awarded a limousine ride and lunch at Fatz Cafe in Shelby. Six stu- dents earned more than 300 points and each received $100.
