Fifth and sixth graders at Kings Mountain Intermediate School brought their test scores up in both reading and math over last year’s numbers. Principal Ethel Pederson is quick to praise teachers for stick- ing with the standard course of study. The school also hired a teacher to do remediation the entire year and added a second instructor as the testing dates approached. Fourth graders at East, North ] and West elementary schools scored 100 percent proficient on math. No other schools in the new Cleveland County Schools district had scores at 100 percent. North Principal Joey Hooper said his faculty has high expecta- tions and works all year to get the top notch results. BRYMER Staff Writer The merged Cleveland County Schools has taken a major step toward reorgan- izing, according to Superintendent Dr. Gene Moore. Many administrative office staff have received new job assignments and this week are moving to dif- ferent locations. The former Kings Mountain District Schools office on Ridge Street will be used for financial, person- nel, child nutrition and Head Start. Dr. Larry Allen, who has been named deputy superintendent for auxiliary services, will work out of the Ridge Street loca- tion. Ronnie Wilson has been named chief consultant for human resources. Mary Accor will be director of recruiting and personnel support. Jada Brown will direct the child nutrition program. Patti Norman will direct Head Start. The former Shelby City Schools headquarters on Patton Drive will house 90 percent of instructional serv- ices. John Goforth has been named director of secondary schools. Carolyn Roark will be an exceptional children consultant. Phil Weathers, who has been named director of safe schools, will work from the Cleveland County Schools’ Post Road location.
