59th Debutante Ball SOCIAL BRIEFS
Saturday in Shelby
Sixty young women from
12 area cities will be present-
ed to society in the Junior
Charity League of Shelby’s
59th annual Debutante Ball
Saturday, June 12.
The activities begin Friday
morning with a debutante
registration and coffee at the
home of Judge James and
Paige Morgan. Friday
evening will include a par-
ent dinner dance at
retary to the debutantes.

Blood drive today
at Patrick Center
The Kings Mountain
Rotary Club will host a
blood drive June 10 from
1:30-6 p.m. at the H.
Lawrence Patrick Senior Life
and Conference Center.
There is a critical need for
O-negative, O-positive, B-
negative and A-negative
blood, according to Sandi
Bolick of the Cleveland
County Red Cross.
“Patients in our area
depend on the generosity of
local donors,” Bolick said.
To donate, one must be at
least 17 years old and weigh
at least 110 pounds and be
in general good health. Take
a picture ID or blood donor
card.

Cleveland County GOP
will meet Monday, June 14
at 6:30 p.m. at Jackson's
Cafeteria in Shelby.
Guest speaker will be
Thomas Stith, candidate for
Lt. Governor. He is currently
a three-term member of the
Durham City Council.
Lt. Governor is one of the
primaries the Republican
Party will hold on July 20.
The Cleveland County
GOP meets the second
Monday of the month. The
public is invited to attend.
Reservations are not neces-

The July 12 meeting will
be a free “Meet and Greet”
reception at Deer Brook Golf

Alzheimer’s walk
in planning stages
Cleveland County's annu-
al Memory Walk to raise
funds to end Alzheimer’s
Disease will be held October
30 at Lake Hollifield on the
Gardner-Webb University
campus.
Anyone interested in find-
ing a cure or prevention for
the disease or in supporting
families dealing with the ill-
ness are invited to form
teams to raise money or to
participate individually.
Funds go to the
Alzheimer’s Association to
be used for research and for
local programming such as a
toll-free help line, support
groups, caregiver counsel-
ing, educational opportuni-
ties for caregivers and more.
Anyone interested in help-
ing to plan the event or who
would like to be a sponsor

Surveyor Frank Ledford
will present a program on
the formation of the counties
in North Carolina at the
meeting of Broad River
Genealogical Society

Ledford has worked as a
surveyor in Cleveland
County for 40 years.
The meeting will be held

at the rear of the Center.
