i ’ 5 4 | An a pn ee August 12, 2004 RAYLEIGH COUCH Rayleigh Couch born July 23, 2004 Rayleigh Grace Couch was born July 23, 2004 in Birmingham, AL. She weighed eight pounds, 15 ounces and was 21 inches long. She is the daughter of Raymond Jr. and Lori Couch of Birmingham, formerly of Kings Mountain. Maternal grandparents are Gerald and Bonnie Walker of Angier, NC, and Raymond Sr. and Brenda Couch of Kings Mountain. GABE WILSON Gabe Wilson notes his first birthday Gabe Wilson was one year old August 4. He celebrated July 31 with a party at his home. Family and friends attended and enjoyed cake and hot dogs. Gabe received lots of gifts. The theme was balloons and clowns. Gabe is the son of Nile and Cynthia Wilson, He has a brother, Dillon, age 11. Maternal grandparent is Brenda Ivester of Kings Mountain. Paternal grand- parent is Ginger Stone of Kings Mountain. LAURA PAGE Laura Page named Young Miss NC Laura Suzanne Page of Gastonia was named 2004 Young Miss North Carolina at the Little Miss North Carolina State Scholarship Pageant held at Lenoir- Rhyne College in Hickory. Laura is the 13-year-old daughter of Randy and Gayle Page. Miss North Carolina 2004, Kirstin Elrod, crowned the winners from 133 contestants representing their respective communities from across the state. Contestants were required to compete in Beauty, Private Interview, and Talent to vie for the state titles and a prize package of approxi- mately $25,000 in education- al scholarships. Laura is a rising eighth grade honor roll student at Gaston Christian School. She also won awards in talent, interview, modeling and swimsuit. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Strickland of Raleigh, Mrs. Sandra Hamilton and the late Larry Hamilton of Gastonia, and Mr. and Mrs. Vester Page of Cherryville. She is the great granddaugh- ter of George Raines of Kings Mountain, Wanna Goodman of Gastonia and Irene Oates of Lake Wylie. Art Classes set at KM Arts Center Children’s art classes will be held Saturday at the The Kings Mountain Herald Kings Mountain Art Center. Blood drive set at El Bethel UMC There will be a Red Cross blood drive Wednesday, Aug. 18 at El Bethel United Methodist Church. The drive runs from 2 to 6:30 p-m. The church is located at 122 El Bethel Church Road. KM Class of ‘79 planning reunion The Kings Mountain High School Class of 1979 will hold its 25 year class reunion September 24-25. Tentative plans are for the weekend activities to begin on Friday, Sept. 24 with a supper at KMHS before the Mountaineers” homecoming game, followed by attending the game. A dinner and dance will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25. Anyone with contact information about class- mates is asked to call Butch Pearson at 472-4483. The Kings Mountain Junies}eman’s Club invites new members to attend its next meeting Aug. 16. : The club was officially chartered by the General Federation of Woman's Clubs of North Carolina Convention on April 23, 2003. The club has established a Clothes Chest at each Kings Mountain elementary school to provide clothing items for students in need, held three succpssful fundraising con- signment sales; written letters to area chil- dren for Absolutely Incredible Kids Day, col- lected box tops for area schools, collected _ can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, recycled ink cartridges, donated clothing to Fund raiser planned for History Museum Support local historic preservation efforts, spend an evening socializing and enjoying hors d'oeuvres and beverages and possibly win either a Harley Davidson motorcycle, diamond ring, $12,000 cash prize, Mediterranean cruise, for two plus $2,000 or a Ford Ranger pickup in a fund raiser being planned by the Kings Mountain Historical Museum.
