The loss was the second straight for BC to a Rutherford County team. The Jackets had opened their season a week earlier with a similar 35-7 loss to R-S Central. Shane Whitlock scored on a one-yard run early in the first quarter, and Brandon Lambert added the PAT to put the Jackets up 7-0. : But, just like the week before, the Yellow Jackets had trouble with turnovers and the Trojans took advantage to run up a 34-7 halftime advantage. . Chase scored four quick touchdowns in the first quarter, on runs of 10 and three yards by Anthony Wingo, a 31-yard pass from Josh White to Blake Wheeler, and a 57- yard interception return from Marcus, Watkins. O'Neal Chestnut’s nine yard pass from White put the Trojans up 34-7 early in the third quarter. Whitlock scored on a spectacular 82-yard run in the third quarter to cut the margin to 34-14, and BC added a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Geoffrey Shiver in the fourth quarter. Once again, the Yellow Jackets had a strong running game but three lost fumbles and two pass interceptions helped the Chase cause. Whitlock finished with 161 yards rushing in 24 carries, giving him an area-high 379 yards rushing in two games. = BC travels to West Lincoln Friday. He was playing in a threesome with his wife Peggy Jackson and grandson Josh Etters. NEiltember 1st through 11th MOUNTIES From 1B two yards out to cut the margin to 14-13. A lateral pass to Antwan Ross covering 58 yards set up the score. Those two time-consuming drives set the tone for the remainder of the game, as the Mountaineers rolled up 24 first downs and 425 yards rushing and dominated the trenches. “I was pleased with the way our kids han- dled a little bit of adversity,” Farquharson said. “They didn’t get down. They stayed after it and rose up to the challenge that they were faced with. They stuck with their game plan and played aggressively and did a good job.” A long kickoff return by East Gaston's Marcus Reid to the KM 29 yard line set up an 18-yard touchdown run by Desmond Wilson, but KM blocked the point-after attempt leaving East Gaston on top 20-13. Mountaineer defensive back Darik Gary recovered a fumble at the Warriors’ 48 to set up a 19-yard touchdown reception by Feaster with just seven seconds left in the half. A bad snap on the extra point attempt resulted in holder Brad Moffitt passing to Chris Patrick for a two-point conversion to put KM on top 21-20 at intermission. The start of the second half provided a few more fireworks, then as the game wore on it was evident that the Mountaineers were wearing down the Warrior defense. Kings Mountain was apparently driving the second half kickoff in for a score, but the drive stalled and the Mountaineers settled for a 28-yard field goal by Franks that put them up 24-20. East Gaston came right back with another one-play drive, as Baker hit McDowell on a short slant pattern and he raced 70 yards to put the Warriors up 27-24. But the quick play meant that the East Gaston defense got to spend only 15 sec- onds on the sidelines. and KM answered with another long drive (69 yards in seven plays) to score on a four-yard run by Goode that put KM back on top 31-27. Reserve running back John Gwinn chewed up the East Gaston defense on that march, carrying six straight times up the middle for 67 yards before Goode got the call around left end for the TD with 3:34 left in the third quarter. Gwinn and Goode took turns about carry- ing the ball on KM’s next drive, a 75 yard march in nine plays that ended with Goode’s eight-yard run around end to make the score 38-27. A crushing sack of Baker by defensive end Wes Dixon stopped a potential East march early in the fourth quarter, and the Mounties drove 68 yards in just three plays to put the game out of reach at 45-27. Phillips took a hand off from Gilbert and circled right end and rambled 69 yards down the KM sidelines for the touchdown. Reid's kickoff return to the KM 29 set up a three-yard touchdown run by Boogie Tate for East Gaston's final score. While turning points were many, it was evident that the difference in the game was KM'’s dominance on both sides of the line and their time consuming drives. “We challenged them (the linemen) to step up,” Farquharson said. “We felt like we were in a little better shape and we wanted them to be a little bit more physical. They did a good job of doing that. “Josh Gilbert and our young running backs did a good job, not just running but also blocking. “I don’t think there was a turning point. * We came in and challenged them to be more physical, to be committed to what we were doing and to work hard every single quarter and ever single minute. I think when we started getting in the trenches there and felt like we had them on their heels a little bit, they just rose up and continued to plug away. Our coaching staff did a good job of controlling the ball and working it down the field and being patient, and it paid off.” KM EG First downs 24 12 Yds. rushing 425. 128 Yds. passing 133 252 Passes 6-12-0 7-172 Fumbles lost 0 1 Yds. penalized 55 5 Score by quarters: T KM 7 14 10 14 45 EG 14 6 7 7 34 EG - Sean Helms 66 pass from Ryan Baker (Adam Davis kick) EG - Michael McDowell 76 pass from Baker (Davis kick) KM - Johnny Phillips 6 run (Will Franks kick) KM - Sidney Goode 2 run (Kick failed) EG - Desmond Wilson 18 run (Kick blocked) KM - Antonio Feaster 19 pass from Josh Gilbert (Chris Patrick pass from Brad Moffitt).
