The Kings Mountain Herald OBITUARIES October 14, 2004 WILLIAM ELDRIDGE SUMTER, SC - William Cook “Billy” Eldridge, 56, husband of Ann Davis Eldridge, died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, he was a son of Lucie Anne Cuttino Eldridge and the late William Cook; Eldridge Sr. He was a graduate of Edmunds High School and a cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity. He was a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church, where he served on the Sunday School Administrative Staff and on the Archives Committee. He served in the Air National Guard from 1970-1978. He taught history and social studies in Sumter School District #2 for 28 years. Until the time of his illness, he was Office Manager of the South Carolina Early Autism Project of Sumter. Survivors are his wife, Ann, who is formerly of Kings Mountain and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Davis of Kings Mountain; his mother, Lucie Ann Eldridge and his daughter, Mary Cothonneau Eldridge, Sumter; a brother, James Cuttino Eldridge and his wife, Lynn Taylor Eldridge of Sumter; brother- in-law, Wally Davis and his wife Leigh of Conover; sis- ter-in-law Pat Baker and her husband, Bryan Baker, of Kings Mountain; and nieces and nephews, Matthew James Eldridge, Sumter; Hiley Davis and Hunter Davis, Conover; and Elizabeth Baker, Robert Baker and Anne Scott Baker of Kings Mountain. The funeral was held October 5 at First Baptist Church, with burial in Sumter Cemetery. ADA BARRETT KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ada Mauney Barrett, 69, 211 Catherine Street, died October 10, 2004 at Countrytime Inn, Kings Mountain. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Augustus and Hester Cook Mauney and wife of the late George Thomas Barrett. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Lillie Mae Mauney, and brothers Willard Cook, Lester Mauney, Horace Mauney, Augustus Mauney Jr. and Ernest Mauney. She was a member of the Interdenominational Holiness Church, Kings Mountain, and was a home- maker. She is survived by her sons, Randy Thomas Barrett and wife Brenda S. of Conway, SC, and Marvin George Barrett of Kings Mountain; brothers William Mauney of St. Louis, MO and David Mauney of Kings Mountain; sister Betty Robbs of Kings Mountain; and three grandchildren, Randy Travis Barrett of Conway, SC, Leslie Dawn Scott of Shelby and Darren Gilman of Gastonia. The funeral will be con- ducted by the Rev. Minnie Webb at 2 p.m. Thursday at Interdenominational Holiness Church. Interment will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. EMEDELL JONES KINGS MOUNTAIN - Emedell Strickland Jones, 89, 623 Oak Grove Road, died October 10, 2004 at her home. A native of Social Circle, GA, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence William and Annie Elizabeth Laney Strickland and wife of the late Clarence N. Jones. She was also preceded in death by one great grandchild, Corey Dylan Jones; a son, Marty Jones; two brothers, Richard “Smokey” Strickland and Julian Strickland; and four sisters, Lucille Brown, Irene Belk, Annie Pearl Dellinger, and Elma Gantt. She was a charter member of Penley’s Chapel. She was a homemaker and retired from Grover Industries. She is survived by her sons, Alan Lee Jones and wife Barbara Kay of Kings Mountain, Terry R. Jones and wife Sybil of Kings Mountain, and Roy E. Jones and wife Peggy Ann of Kings Mountain; daughter- in-law, Della Mode of Kings Mountain; eight grandchil- dren and 11 great grandchil- dren. The funeral was conduct- ed by the Rev. Doug Allen at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Penley’s Chapel. Burial was in Mountain Rest Cemetery. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daugh- ter of the late John and Berthie King Hullender. She was the wife of the late Burman Coley Bryant and was also preceded in death by a sister, Girleen Greene. She was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, and was retired from Parkdale Mills. She is survived by her husband, Carl R. Smith of Kings Mountain; sons Burman Lee Bryant and wife Lori of Kings Mountain, Melvin Bryant and wife Judy of Kings Mountain, and D.K. Bryant of Kings Mountain; daughter Sissy Toney and husband Gene of Clover, SC; brother Ken Hullender of Kings Mountain; sisters Kathleen Reynolds, Sally Gregory, JoAnn Chapman, Bertie Barber, Loretta Ware, Lenora Sutherland and Brenda Couch, all of Kings Mountain; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral was conduct- ed by the Revs. Richard Brown and Mitchell Pruitt at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. She was also pre- ceded in death by her hus- band, Jay Cee Carroll, daughter Kay Bolin and brother Eldred Patterson. She was'a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Clyde Carroll and wife Sherry of Lexington, Randy Carroll and wife Roxanne of Clover, SC, and Don Carroll * and wife Patricia of Kings Mountain; daughters Becky Carroll of Kings Mountain and Velma Oliver and hus- ‘band Richard of Kings Mountain; son-in-law Lawrence Bolin of Kings Mountain; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchil- dren. She was also preceded in death by her sis- ters, Louise Segner and Norma Birk, and brother Arthur Kramer. She was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Church Circle. She was a homemak- er. She is survived by her daughters, Diane M. McMurray and husband Butch of Grover, Nieta McDaniel of Grover, and Polly DeHart of Mocksville; grandson William Robert McMurray of Grover; grand- daughter Elizabeth Nicole McMurray of Grover; and a number of nieces and nephews.
