Sophia is dressed as Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” and Spencer is a caterpillar, PRT PTH (rR TR A TRY TORS VR ISH ON yO OY The Kings Mountain Herald big hit with kids Skeletons, clowns, Dorothy of “Wizard of Oz” fame, soldiers, cowgirls and boys, Spiderman, angels, a lion, witches and more made their way down the streets of Kings Mountain Friday morn- ing. Bay care centers, elementary schools and families participated in the city’s annual Halloween parade. At the city hall starting point acting City Manager Marilyn Sellars pumped up the crowd. “Let’s scare everybody. Give me a ‘boo,”” she said. Police blocked traffic as the troupe of kids and adults paraded through town to Mauney Memorial Library for games and stories. City Events Coordinator Ellis Noell estimated the crowd at between 300 and 350. Noell said he was surprised at the turn out given the overcast skies. “The kids get so excited about wearing their cos- tumes. They're ready to go trick or treating,” Noell said. Sherry Williams, a kindergarten teacher at East Elementary, said students started talking about Halloween a week ago. Spiderman is one of the most popular costumes, according to Wilson. Lady bugs were another hot item this Halloween. Sydnee Radford was wearing a lion costume but according to her mom Staci Radford, she wanted the popular insect garb but couldn't find it in stores. Color was: the deciding factor for Abby Davis who dressed as a pink unicorn. Ashley Falls’ love of animals led her to a dog cos- tume. According to her mother Nancy Falls, the six- year-old selected her own costume while her two- year-old brother Nicholas Falls was content with his sister’s old cow costume.
