My SIL gave me a funny look as she went out the door. I just gave her my wis- est knows-all smile. Once, when I thought I was God's gift to the world of comedy, I made one of my dumbest mistakes where my wife is concerned. She and the next door neighbor went to the beauty shop together, and when they returned, I asked, “where have you two been?” “We went to the beauty shop,” she said. “Didn't get waited on, huh?” I remarked. That brilliant observation cost me dinner that night, and several nights of cold shoulder. I was finally able to convince her I was merely talking about the neighbor. These days, when she returns from the beauty par- lor, I become cloyingly sweet and complimentary. Here are a couple more traps and proper answers to look for. “Do you think this dress makes me look a little hippy?” “Absol utely not. You look good enough to take to Chinatown.” Be aware of this one, it could be deadly. “Look at that woman, she looks like a tart.” The lady in question is a knockout, but you had bet- ter answer something like this. “Well, every woman can’t be as lovely as you, sweetheart.” Say this sin- cerely, or you will pay an exorbitant price. Men, young and old, should learn from other’s mistakes. ANDIE From 4A was designed not to enforce majority rule but to protect the rights of everyone. How would the Christians of North Carolina feel if next week the gover- nor declared it Koran Week? declared it Bhagavad Gita Week to honor the scriptures of Hinduism? I'm convinced that our local churches, interested businesses and individuals could come together for Bible Week without the aid of city hall. If the words of the Bible are true and good, they will stand the test of time without proclamations What if the president from elected leaders. G ARY A few seconds later, the preacher came to the phone. From 4A ~ “lintended to give you more begging than preach- ing and the phones in the studio were lighting up with pledges. My buddy dialed the number on the screen and asked to speak to the preacher. “Oh, he can’t come to the phone,” the lady on the phone said. “He’s on the air.” “Well, said my friend, “I want to give $50,000 but I'm not going to give it unless I talk to him personally.” Ann Maries On Main Street AFFORDABLE Resale Shop Women's, Children’s clothing. A propane tank apparent- ly broke a storm door at the park’s headquarters letting in water. Computers and other equipment were drenched.
