Ronald’s Garage, 904 S. Battleground Ave., reported that someone broke into the business and stole checks and currency. WRECK Thomas Greene of Kings Mountain told police he was traveling west on US 74 Bypass when a red van merged into his lane of trav- el and forced him off the road. His vehicle then crossed the road and ran off the right side, went up an embankment and over- turned. There were no injuries reported. Damage to - the vehicle was $9,000. CANIPE From 1A Canipe said, pointing to the display. Wife Louise says her hus- band is going through his second childhood. His great-grandchildren, ages 6, 11 and 13, are delighted. “I let them come in and play,” Canipe said. “I have to fix it back.” Canipe first worked on heavy equipment as a Department of Transportation employee. Then he worked at Foote Mineral for 30 years, earn- ing numerous safety pins. He also worked at Kings Mountain Micgh for three years and Lithium Corporation for eight years, retiring at age 70. Several of his friends still working in mining and a few retirees have visited the display. Heavy equipment work- ing on the roadside contin- ues to catch his eye. “I want to stop and get on one. See If I can still run it,” Canipe said. GEORGE RAINES KINGS MOUNTAIN - George W. Raines, 91, 201 Fairdel Street, died November 8, 2004 at Kings Mountain Hospital. A native of Landrum, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Henry and Celia Pettit Raines and husband of the late Ruth Lillian Morris Raines. He was also preceded in death by sisters Mary Sue Tucker, Lula Brock, Julia Morgan, Jenny McClure and Vinney McMackin and brothers Charlie Raines, Luther Raines, Rowland Raines and William D. Raines. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was retired from Dicey Mills, Shelby. He is survived by sons Edward “Butch” Raines and friend Reba Sisk of Kings Mountain, and Bobby G. Raines and wife Janice of Lawndale; daughters Martha Myers and husband Bob of Kings Mountain and Sue R. Strickland and husband Carl of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Debbie Frederick and husband Marty of Richmond, VA, Randy Page and wife Gayle of Gastonia, Donna Keeter and husband Chris of Kings Mountain, Eric Myers and wife Lynn of Gastonia, Scott Raines of Kings Mountain, and Shane Raines of Charlotte; two step grandchildren, Sherri Weeks and husband Paul and Brian Beatty of Lawndale; four great-grandchildren, Laura Page, Kala Buchanan, Lindsay Frederick and Grayson Myers; two step great grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Weeks; and special friends Donna and Brenda Mace, and Joe and Judy Tesseneer. DAVID NANCE KINGS MOUNTAIN - William “David” Nance, 35, 102 Cenco Drive, died November 6, 2004 at Duke University Medical Center. He was a Baptist. He was employed with Firestone in Kings Mountain for over four years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jake Garland Nance Jr. He is survived by his father, Jake Garland Nance Sr., mother Nancy Sue Breakfield Carroll; wife of 17 years, Tammy Terry Nance of Kings Mountain; father-in-law Donald Terry of Gastonia; mother-in-law Jonell Terry of Kings Mountain; and daugh- ters Kristen Taylor Nance, age 9, and Hailey Brooke Nance, age 3, both of Kings Mountain. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Tim Setzer at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Greene - Funeral Service - West Chapel. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont. DORIS JOHNSON KINGS MOUNTAIN - Doris Hipp Johnson, 75, of White Oak Manor, died November 3, 2004 at home. A native of Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lois Cox Hipp. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alphild Johnson, and son Douglas M. Johnson. She was formerly employed by Fred’s Diner for many years. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Bob Johnson'and wife Edna of Hampton, VA, Bill Johnson and wife Jacki of Wake Forest, NC, Tom Johnson and wife Jean of Lowell; daughters Arlene McMurtry and husband George of Belmont, Terri Davidson of Kings Mountain; brother Gerald Hipp and wife Hazel of Kings Mountain; nieces Gerri Ramey and Pam Martin of Kings Mountain; grandchildren Erin Dover, Micki Pettit and husband Lonnie, Tony Childers and wife Teresa, Derek Smith and wife Tracy, Alan Smith and wife Michelle, Jack Johnson, Angie Robinson and husband Daniel, Elisa Johnson, Brad, April and Sunshine Johnson; and six great grandchil- dren. James Donald Holmes, 64, 1818 Bethlehem Road, died November 9, 2004 at his home. A native of Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late C.C. Holmes. He was retired pastor of Shelby First Assembly, and was employed by D&B Transport, Kings Mountain. He was a minis- ter for over 30 years and was a member of Shelby First Assembly. He served in the United States Army for seven years. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bolin Holmes of Kings Mountain; mother, Florence Ward Holmes of Shelby; son James Timothy Holmes and wife Margaret Ruth Holmes of Kings Mountain; brothers Fred Holmes of Chester, SC, Lewis Holmes of Clayton, AL, Jack Holmes of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Gene Holmes of Cherryville; sister Betty Beeco of Newberry, SC; and two grandchildren, James Timothy Holmes Jr. and Matthew Travis Holmes, both of Kings Mountain.
