Page 2B ow bis “The Kings Mountain Herald November 18, 2004 JENA LEIGH GLADDEN Local girls to part 3 in 57th Carrousel Jena Leigh Gladden, Marlowe Higginbotham, and Regina Bell will represent area high schools in the 57th Carolinas’ Carrousel parade’ Thanksgiving Day in Charlotte. The parade begins at 1 p.m. and will be shown by delayed telecast at 4 p.m. on WBTV Channel 3. The Pepsi Coronation and Awards Ceremony, which features the crown- ing of the new Carolinas’ Carrousel Queen, will be held Wednesday, Nov. © 24 at 7:45 p.m. at the Omni Charlotte ‘Hotel, 132 East Trade Street. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for children under 12 and are available at the Carrousel office. Grand Marshall is Dale F. Halton, President and Chairman of the Board of Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Charlotte. He will speak at the corona- tion ceremony, and entertainment will be provided by the East Burke Cavalier Band, which will lead the parade as Honor Band, and the East Burke Choral Singers. The 60 Carrousel rep- resentatives will be introduced, the queen will be crowned and scholarship and grant winners announced. Jena Leigh Gladden is a senior at Kings Mountain High School, where she ranks number five in a class of 268. She plans to attend Erskine College to obtain a bachelor’s in Biology, and ‘plans to attend graduate school at UNC-Chapel Hill. Jena Leigh's future plans include working in Field Ecology and Research Biology. She hopes to work for the Environmental Protection Agency in Water Quality Management. She received an Erskine Fellows, Wofford Scholarship, was accepted in Summer Ventures in Microbiology, attended the Gardner-Webb Choral Clinic and Cleveland County Choral Clinic, was a Junior Marshall, Academic Top Achiever, Renaissaice Gold Card Holder, and had the highest English I. end-of-course score in 2002. She is a member of Boyce Memorial ARP Church, where she sings in the. choir and has participated in mission: trips and youth retreats. She works - part-time at Chuga-Chuga Choo-Choo. Marlowe Higginbotham is a senior at Gaston Day School, where she ranks number one in a class of 11. She was selected as Beta Club Queen. She was named Who's Who Among American High School Students and Who's Who-Sports edi- tion. She has been on the National Honor Roll, All-American Scholar, and A Honor Roll. She has had perfect attendance at school, and is a member of the ACTS High School Honor Society. She won the Algebra III / Trigonometry Award, Spanish III Award, Computer Applications II Award, Bible Award and Citizenship Award. She is captain of the volleyball team. Her freshman year she participated in Gaston County Commissioners School of Excellence. Her sophomore year she was a North Carolina Senate Page. Last summer she attended Student Leadership University 101 in Orlando, FL, and she plans to attend 201 next summer in Washington, DC. She is active in church and has served in the youth group and has gone on mission trips. She volunteers at the Crisis Pregnancy Center. 2 REGINA BELL cipate parade BEVERLY ERIN HUTCHINS Beverly Erin Hutchins represents West Lincoln Beverly Erin Hutchins was crowned the 2004 Carrousel Princess at West Lincoln High School during recent home- coming festivities. She will represent her school in the Carrousel celebration events during Thanksgiving week and will participate in the Carolinas’ Carrousel Parade on Thanksgiving Day. She is the daughter of Neil and Diane Hutchins of Lincolnton and the granddaughter of Jack and Georgia Hutchins of Kings Mountain.
