a Hee pro or et November 18, 2004 The Kings Mountain Herald ANDIE L. BRYMER/HERALD Jeffery and Trish Allison’s Bethlehem mobile home caught fire late Monday night. The living room sustained fire and water damage. Bethlehem home damaged by fire BY ANDIE L. BRYMER Staff Writer Fire damaged the home of a Bethlehem family Monday night. Jeffery and Trish Allison’s mobile home sustained mild to medium damage from a blaze which escaped the fireplace, according to Bethlehem Fire Chief Jeff Cloninger. The living room was burned and has water damage. The rest of the house sus- tained smoke damage. Cloninger estimated that the ceiling and living room floor will have to be replaced. Appliances melted and some furniture burned. “It’s just a good thing the smoke alarm woke them up,” Ann Allison said Tuesday morning. She is Jeffery Allison’s mother. “Everything smells so bad. You can never get that out,” Ann Allison said. The insurance will only cover paying off the mortgage loan, according to Ann Allison. She said her son thought he had purchased replacement insurance. The Allisons have three children, Brittany, 12, Dylan, 10 and a baby Jake. Both work at the Wal-Mart distribution center. Donations may be taken to Ann Allison's home at 411 Fulton Drive, Kings Mountain. For more information, call 704-730-0786. The family is staying with Ann Allison but will are looking for an inexpensive rental. The Cleveland County Red Cross has provided emergency assistance. Rabid raccoon found near Kings Mountain A raccoon that was acting strange was picked up by Animal Control on Oak Grove Road in Kings Mountain last week and test- ed positive for rabies. This makes the 106th case or rabies in Cleveland County since June 1998, and the 26th case of 2004. According to Denese Stallings, Health Director, residents should make sure their animals are under their direct control. Animals that are allowed to run loose are at risk of coming into contact with a rabid ani- mal. Non-vaccinated pets that are exposed to a rabid animal will be euthanized or quarantined for six months. Stallings said that anyone living in the vicinity of 811 Oak Grove Road should observe their animals for unusual behavior for the next six months. In addition, resi- dents should make sure their pets have cur- rent rabies vaccination. State law requires all cats and dogs to have a rabies shot at four months of age, and a booster every three years. Anyone seeing an animal demonstrating unusual behavior should call Animal Control at 481-9884. A rabid skunk was found at 2159 Weatherford Drive, Shelby, last week. Cleveland County Animals Control offi- cers picked up the skunk after receiving a complaint that it was acting strange. The animals was sent to the state lab. Local offi- cials were notified Friday that the skunk tested positive for rabies. This is the 27th case of rabies this year and the 107th case since June 1998. ’ Commodities distribution set Commodities will be dis- tributed Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 1 p-m. at the H.
