Women were involved with all aspects of the Revolution, assisting both sides. Those women’s voices will be heard at Kings Mountain National Military Park Saturday, March 5 in honor of Women's History Month. The event is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and admission is free. Several women were at the Battle of Kings Mountain and one lost her life during the heated engagement. Mary Patton of Tennessee made the gun powder used by a large portion of the patriot contingent. British Major Patrick Ferguson had two female servants with him. Several wives, mothers, and daughters came to the battle- field in the aftermath to search for relatives and nurse the wounded. Across the Carolinas, many women played vital roles during the conflict.
